00:00Good day and welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday, March 26. Here are the top stories
00:10at this hour. Saudi Arabia and Gulf allies launch military operations, including airstrikes
00:16in Yemen today, officials said, to counter Iran-allied forces besieging the southern
00:21city of Aden, where the Yemeni president has taken refuge. Al Arabiya TV reported that
00:27the kingdom was contributing as many as 150,000 troops and 100 warplanes to the operations.
00:34Egypt, Jordan, Sudan and Pakistan were ready to take part in a ground offensive in Yemen,
00:39it said. The UAE is sending 30 warplanes to join the operation, along with 15 each from
00:44Bahrain and Kuwait, 10 from Qatar, six each from Jordan and Morocco, and three from Sudan.
00:50Unidentified warplanes had earlier launched airstrikes on the main airport in the Yemeni
00:54capital Sana'a and its al-Dulaimi military airbase, residents said. The U.S. has also
01:00joined the coalition, offering logistical and intelligence support. One of the two pilots
01:05on the German wing's flight that has crashed in the French Alps was locked out of the cockpit
01:10before the plane went down, killing 150 people, a source close to the investigation said.
01:15Cockpit recordings recovered from the crash site indicated one of the seats was pushed
01:20back and the door opened and closed. Then knocking is heard, said the source, adding
01:24that there was no more conversation from that point until the crash. The source said an
01:29alarm indicating that proximity to the ground could be heard before the moment of impact.
01:34One Direction's Dubai concert will not be affected by the departure of band member Zayn
01:39Malik, said local organizers. Malik quit the boy band on Wednesday after five years, an
01:44official statement confirmed. The departure came just days after the 22-year-old took
01:49time off the band's world tour due to stress, something that was spurred on by rumors that
01:54Malik had been unfaithful to fiancee Perrie Edwards.
01:58And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 33 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:03to 20 degrees at night. That's all for now. Thank you for watching. A reminder that our
