00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News Update for Tuesday, December the 9th. Here are the
00:23top stories at this hour.
00:26The U.S. Senate will release a long-delayed report today into the CIA's brutal interrogation
00:31of al-Qaeda suspects after the 2001 attacks, as American embassies went on heightened alert
00:37amid fears of a backlash. White House officials confirmed they expect the report to be published,
00:43even though U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry warned late last week about the impact it
00:48could have around the world.
00:51GCC heads of state are holding their 35th annual summit in the Qatari capital Doha today.
00:56The meeting was being heralded a success before even taking place due to concerns that a Gulf
01:01dispute with Qatar could have it moved to a different capital. Regional leaders, however,
01:07reconciled last month, allowing Qatar's young Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to host
01:12his first GCC summit without boycotts. On the agenda are the conflicts in Yemen and
01:17Syria, as well as a possible reconciliation between Egypt and Doha.
01:22One policeman was killed in an attack in a Bahraini town. The attack occurred last night
01:26in Damastan, southwest of Manama, while the officer was on duty. It was the first deadly
01:32attack on the security forces since parliamentary elections in November, boycotted by the main
01:37Shiite opposition group. Australia's David Warner paid fitting tribute to close friend
01:41Philip Hughes with a brilliant century this morning, but skipper Michael Clarke retired
01:46hurt on day one of an emotional first test against India in Adelaide. After pre-game
01:52tributes to Hughes, fatally struck while batting in a domestic game, Warner reached his 10th
01:57Test 100 of just 106 balls. Next year's month-long Abu Dhabi festival will feature 140 performances,
02:03from the Budapest Orchestra to Brazilian Boston No. 1 star Sergio Mendes to Peruvian operatic
02:09tenor Juan Carlos Flores and Lebanese singer Maisa Kara. The events will be spread across
02:15the seven Emirates. 90% of the festival is free and starts on March 3. And finally,
02:21the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 28 degrees Celsius, dropping to 16 degrees
02:26at night. That's all for now. Thanks for watching. And as always, you can get the latest news
