00:00The kids have always wanted a dog and we've talked about it a lot and we kind of knew
00:13that they would be into it, so when we went to the adoption day we didn't actually think
00:18we'd come home with a dog that day, we thought that we'd go and see the dogs and we'd fill
00:22in forms and people would speak to us, so when we actually came home with a dog it was
00:27much sooner than we expected. I don't think we were quite as prepared as we could have
00:32been. The good thing is that it kind of gets us out of bed a little bit earlier in the
00:36morning because we know that Foxy's got to get her walk and I think it's good exercise
00:40for both Arlene and myself is the night time walk, rather than sitting on the couch watching
00:45television we're actually out and being active and getting some fresh air.
00:49It's company for me when I'm at home because I'm not allowed to work in that year, so it's
00:55more company as well for me and she follows me everywhere around the house.
00:59Having Foxy around, I've got someone to play with so I go outside and play with Foxy, so
01:04it's much more active now. When we first got her, putting on her lead was a bit of a struggle
01:09because she didn't, she was like, but now it's easier, she lets you slip it on.
01:12Yeah, she sits down and she just lets you put the lead on now, it's quite good.
01:16In a normal week, giving her walks, making sure she's got her food, she's eating it,
01:21making sure she's getting enough rest and playing and getting enough petting so she
01:26knows she's loved.
01:28I think it's teaching them a bit of responsibility, as well as sharing the walking routine, we've
01:34all taken a turn at feeding her, so the kids have had to learn how much food to give her,
01:40when to give her, and that responsibility when they go out, making sure she stays on
01:46the lead and teaching them to teach her not to pull and things like that, it's been good
01:52for them I think.
01:53She likes to be the centre of attention, she likes to jump up and when she likes to play,
01:58when she's got her playtime, her little mad half hour, there's nothing you can say that's
02:02going to stop her, you just have to go with it and play with her. She likes to come up
02:06and lick you and kiss you and get petted and things like that, she's very loving.
02:12She's also really clever, whenever she does do her business inside, the first thing her
02:17ears go back, she runs away and tries to hide, she knows she's done something wrong, she
02:22knows she shouldn't do it.
02:24She's clever, she's learned a couple of little tricks, sitting down and giving you a paw
02:30and things like that, we just need to work on the rest of it and getting that routine
02:34will help.
02:37Sit.
02:38Good girl.
02:40It's brought us closer together because everybody's got to take their shot at cleaning up and
02:45the responsibility, even when we go out, we've got the bags for our business and everybody's
02:50got to clean up behind it and make sure there's nothing left. It's been really good fun, it's
02:55been more fun than it's been hard work, that's for sure.
03:00Since we've had Foxy I've been much happier, I haven't been bored, I'm much happier.
03:06I think it's very rewarding to know that you've taken a dog in that probably wouldn't
03:10have had this quality of life, or if somebody didn't take her eventually the other option
03:17for her was to be put to sleep and that's really terrible in this day and age that the
03:23human race can't look after the animals that are there.
03:27So yeah, I would suggest anyone, if you think you can give a dog a good life and you're
03:31looking for a bit of companionship or another family member, then yeah, help out these rescue
03:39shelters with the animals. You can give them a good life and it's very rewarding.
03:43That's the only message I would have.
03:47Bye bye.
