00:00Can Donald Trump take control of the Gaza Strip?
00:08Last week US President Donald Trump shocked the world when he said this.
00:13The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too. We'll own it.
00:19Trump added that displaced Palestinians could be permanently resettled outside Gaza, suggesting they move to Egypt or Jordan.
00:27The Israeli Defense Minister ordered the IDF to draw up eventual plans for residents who wish to leave Gaza.
00:33Trump's remarks came just weeks after Israel and Hamas agreed on the first stage of a ceasefire and hostage deal.
00:40But the agreement between the two sides doesn't outline who will govern Gaza in the future.
00:45It also doesn't state when the Israeli blockade on the movement of people and goods will be lifted, as further stages are still being negotiated.
00:54From an international legal perspective, do Trump's comments have any standing?
00:59There is absolutely nothing that could be in line with international law.
01:03The only thing that could be in line with international law, but that would be something else,
01:08would be an aid to the reconstruction of Gaza with the agreement of the inhabitants,
01:14which would be gradually relocated a little further, let's say, but that's not what it's about at all.
01:23According to the United Nations, it could take more than 350 years to rebuild Gaza if the current blockade remains.
01:31If we are to take control of a part of the territory of a state without the consent and without the agreement of this state,
01:38it is obviously totally contrary to international law.
01:41It would be an occupation and hence, from the moment we would do it by force, it would even be an aggression.
