Southern California is in desperate need of rain, but it could come far too fast this week, especially in areas recently burned by wildfires.

00:00kind of mid to late week, depending on how you kind of classify Wednesday night. That's the start
00:04of this timeline for this atmospheric river event, and it's going to go through Friday morning,
00:09so really a good chunk of your week. Here's the overall what to expect as far as who's going to
00:14be impacted by rain, snow, and a little bit of a wintry mix. Let's talk about some of the impacts
00:18because it's an atmospheric river event, so that means heavy rain and heavy snowfall to the mountain
00:23regions. Places like Los Angeles, down into San Diego, up into San Francisco, that's where we
00:29could see some flooding, and especially we're watching LA because those recent wildfires,
00:34recent burn scar areas, those are areas where we're more likely to see some of that flooding
00:39and even landslides, so something we'll be keeping an eye on. But then even into the mountains where
00:43we get the heavy snow, we could see big travel impacts, even road closures at times, and the
00:49Sierra possibly, and even blizzard conditions are something we'll be watching as well. So let's go
00:55ahead and dive into this on future radar and how this plays out. As we set things into motion and
00:59go throughout Tuesday, we start to see that rain moving in, but this is not the rain that we're
01:04talking about flooding concerns. That comes later. You'll see this is kind of the precursor to the
01:09real storm that rolls in early Thursday morning, so 6 30 a.m. going into 7 8 a.m. around the time
01:16when people might be driving to work. That's when we're going to start to really see the heavier
01:20pockets of rain indicated by the, you know, yellows and oranges here, and even some of those
01:25darker green shades. We continue to see this play out and move further inland, but even Thursday
01:31evening, we're still seeing that rain into Los Angeles, into San Francisco, down towards San
01:36Diego as well. It's later that this really moves inland, and then ultimately that storm is going to
01:40go right across the country and end up being a weekend storm for the northeast. But back to the
01:46west coast. This is the area we're watching for that heavy rainfall, the most likely areas
01:51of some of that flooding and a quick look at your rain total. Some areas could even get 6 to 8 inches
01:56of rain.
