Bad news? The Eagles blew out the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Good news? The Commanders losing in the NFC Championship game feels a lot better now.
Transcript
00:00Danny, I don't do the, man, I feel a lot better because the team that beat me beat the next
00:07team just as bad thing.
00:09Just not really a class that I took.
00:11It's not my favorite thing, but I mentioned this in passing and I actually want to open
00:16up the MGM National Harbor listener lines, this segment for commanders fans on this about
00:22any takeaways you may have about the division and dealing with Philly moving forward, the
00:27rivalry that's now budding between Washington and their rivals to the North that just won
00:31the Super Bowl.
00:33But here's what I do feel better about the Jaden Daniels dud in Philly, where they hemmed
00:40him in the pocket, pressured him incessantly, blew up everything cliff Kingsbury wanted
00:45to do.
00:46I kind of dismissed it as, well, it was a Thursday game short week cliff afterwards.
00:51Kingsbury said, we tried to put too much in.
00:53I thought maybe it was the opposite where they, they didn't have enough time to put
00:56enough in.
00:57They did the same thing to my homes.
00:59So I will say that I do feel a little bit better about that Daniels outing.
01:04When I see that my homes against this defense was equally as fallible.
01:08And I just think generally, while I'm not a big fan of, ah, the team that hung 55 on
01:13me did score 40 plus the next week.
01:14It's not really something I do the way that they played.
01:19It felt like Washington ran into a buzzsaw.
01:23It felt like you went to the building of a team and it was a coronation.
01:27They were meant to be in that super bowl.
01:29They were meant to whoop Kansas city's butt and you just happened to be the team that
01:32played them that day.
01:33So I think it is reasonable if commanders fans feel a little bit better about how the
01:38season ended after last night.
01:40Yeah.
01:41I hear that.
01:42I mean, my wife asked me last night, it's like, doesn't it make you feel better that
01:44this is happening and Washington lost to Philadelphia.
01:47I can't get out of the, I hate Philadelphia so much.
01:50Maybe if, if like the Rams had done that to us, for example, and then they'd gone on
01:54to win it.
01:55Maybe I could sort of, sort of do that.
01:56But I, I generally do not ever do the, my team beat the team that ended up winning the
02:05super bowl thing.
02:07And this is like the cousin of that.
02:09That makes sense.
02:10Right?
02:11So I remember those years where the giants won the super bowl, like Washington, a six
02:13win team that was garbage with no leadership and no real stars.
02:16And the whole thing was a mess would beat them once.
02:18And it's like, see, we're throwing a game away.
02:20And that's, and that's like the same thing that foolish idiots like Bruce Allen and company
02:23thought.
02:24I also don't do like the transitivity thing.
02:26Like it's college football.
02:27Like for example, the Raiders beat the Ravens who beat the bills, who beat the chiefs which
02:32means that the Raiders were the best team in the NFL.
02:35No, that doesn't work.
02:36Of course it doesn't work.
02:37So each week we always kind of preach.
02:40This is its own story in, in, in the NFL.
02:42Each game has its own character and design.
02:44So you blow out a team and it's a common opponent with somebody else.
02:47Doesn't mean you're going to then blow out that team, et cetera.
02:50So I don't feel any better about it.
02:53Although I guess I don't begrudge someone that might, does that make sense?
02:56Sean's in false church wants to hop in on Grant and Danny here on the fan.
03:00What's up, buddy?
03:01How are you?
03:02I'm doing pretty well.
03:03I appreciate you guys.
03:06Got it.
03:07Yeah.
03:08This, this week is a, is it, it's both, you know, great, awesome football.
03:11It's incredibly unfortunate because Philadelphia as a city is very happy even though they're
03:16burning down their city.
03:17Uh, as, as we're talking, you wouldn't know based on the video, happy enough to start
03:22a fire.
03:23I did.
03:24I, it's, it's, it's incredible to me.
03:25Uh, one of my favorite bits is Bill Burr's rant.
03:28And I, I know that you guys have at least seen a bit or two of it, but my favorite part
03:32about it is, is the fact that Bill Burr is counting down the entire time that he has
03:37to be in front of Philadelphia people and they're cheering for him.
03:41They love being hated that that's what bothers me.
03:43I think the most about Philadelphia is that they love the hatred that everyone gives to
03:48them.
03:49Um, and, and I like, I don't think that they understand the vehemence, like that they're
03:54like, ah, that's cute.
03:55That's, that's hilarious.
03:56It's like, no, no, no.
03:57This is from my core.
03:58This is from, I've, I've, I've been bred and born to this and I, I think that you need
04:03to understand that this, this comes from a very, you know, real, real part of me.
04:09Um, it's, it's beautiful.
04:11That entire bit is not politically correct, uh, but I do, uh, do stand by it.
04:15Yeah.
04:16Don't watch it at work.
04:17The Bill Burr traveling virus open Anthony tour.
04:18I appreciate the phone call, dude, but his point's right.
04:21They're prideful about being disdained.
04:23Yes.
04:24It's not a situation where they go, why don't people like us and get introspective about
04:29it?
04:30Right.
04:31They're prideful and I think are happy when they get over on someone to the point where
04:37they're now irritating you.
04:39So every fan base has trolls.
04:42Every fan base has somebody that's obnoxious where you go to the opposing stadium and you're
04:45constantly in people's faces and you know, whatever, it's not a gene that I have, but
04:49I've seen it done.
04:50I've seen it with Washington fans on the road in different cities and everybody's got that
04:54fights in every stadium.
04:55Yeah.
04:56When a fan base, the exception is the regular person that goes to a game and like maybe
05:02cheers for their team.
05:03When that's the exception.
05:04You know what I mean?
05:06Like there's, there was a pretending for a while among a lot of Philly fans that, that
05:09this wasn't deserved.
05:10It is.
05:11And now of course they've leaned into it, which I guess maybe I admire a little bit
05:13more or at least respect a little bit more.
05:15But yeah, I mean it, it takes a different kind of person to go, not only am I hated,
05:21but I'm excited about that and I sort of seek it out.
05:24That's it's like so antisocial, just so weird to me.
05:28It's so antithetical.
05:29Coolies and Woodbridge on Grant and Danny.
05:31Chris, I loved your work.
05:32Good job.
05:34That's, that's my real name, Cooley.
05:40But honestly, I'm not happy.
05:42I wasn't happy watching that because this was our best season in 30 years, right?
05:47And now here comes Philadelphia, absolutely dominating in a fashion that I've, that we've
05:53never seen before.
05:54They should have won that game 50 to nothing.
05:56I'm so mad that they even, they should have won 50 to nothing, but it's just a little
06:01bit kind of diminishes our, our shine just to me.
06:06Oh, interesting.
06:07It's a little bit.
06:08You think it takes away from Washington's crazy, unforeseen, amazing Renaissance?
06:12No, no, no, no.
06:14I'm not saying it takes away, but it's the fact that like, now we can say whatever we
06:18want to Dallas, right?
06:19We can, we can talk crazy.
06:20We can talk greasy to, to, to the giant, but you, we, all we can say is we're coming for
06:25you.
06:26Really?
06:27We're coming.
06:28They didn't, they didn't win like that.
06:31You know what I mean?
06:32Sure.
06:33You and every other person in America, not from Philly, I was going to say, I think,
06:37by the way, do you talk Brian Greasy or Bob Greasy to them?
06:39Which kind?
06:40Bob Greasy.
06:41I thought Bob Greasy as well.
06:42You should hold on true story.
06:44I once played pop a shot with Bob Greasy.
06:47Come on.
06:48Dead serious.
06:49I was doing the super bowl for ABC years and years ago.
06:52I was just part of a segment on their pregame and you saw the pregame yesterday.
06:57You know that it goes on for eight hours and they have 94 of our pregame coverage continues.
07:01They have like 160 pre-produced bits.
07:04Well, they had me playing Madden or, and like broadcasting from the EA sports game before
07:10the game they called it.
07:11And at that time, I think it was in its fifth or sixth year, it was batting a hundred percent
07:15at predicting correctly the winner of the super bowl.
07:19So they would get two players to come play.
07:21And at this point it was the, the box Raiders super bowl that the bucks destroyed the Raiders
07:27in, in San Diego at Qualcomm stadium.
07:30And I'm trying to think who played.
07:31I know that Charlie Garner who's got local ties was a running back for the Raiders played
07:37in the game.
07:38I think it was Keenan McCardell played for the bucks, but anyway, I was doing this thing
07:43for pregame and was there recording it.
07:45But because of that, I was part of the ABC broadcast crew that week, Danny.
07:49So there was this big ABC like cocktail mixer where all of their talent had to go to this
07:54like big party with a bunch of games and stuff to meet with a bunch of their clients.
07:58Now, if I didn't go, nobody would have noticed or cared, but I went, so I rode on the bus
08:04to get there with Chris Berman and Brian Billick and Michael Strahan and Mike Tirico and the
08:08whole crew.
08:09We were on one of those like party buses with like seven rows and me and my, I must've been
08:13my mom, probably.
08:14I don't know if it was my mom or my dad that year, but anyway, just a hilarious thing.
08:18And then we get there and I'm playing pop a shot by myself and who comes over blocks
08:22the heck out of my shot, like throws my across the room, hit somebody's glass.
08:26It's like, whoops.
08:27And then we start playing pop a shot and he was like super competitive.
08:30Did you beat him?
08:31No chance.
08:32I mean, I remember him.
08:33I don't remember the specifics, but I remember him being like thinking afterwards.
08:36That guy was so competitive.
08:38Like he was there to work.
08:39He can't shut it off.
08:40He hadn't played in decades and still.
08:42Yeah.
08:43Yeah.
08:44But anyway, so I'm a Bob Greasy guy.
08:45I like Brian too.
08:46He's on Kyle Shanahan staff.
08:47So that means I like that.
08:48Brian's a sharp dude.
08:49I'll be a head coach one day.
08:50I was like Bob Greasy, by the way, as a commentator, I always thought good, good delivery, sharp,
08:54good points.
08:55I was in there.
08:56Whatever happened.
08:57Good question.
08:58I mean, was he ever Monday night football?
09:00I feel like he did Monday night football.
09:02Maybe he was like third in the booth.
09:03I know Brian was the third guy in the booth.
09:05Like at one point, Greasy was everywhere.
09:06Then all of a sudden he kind of, I don't know if he fell out of favor or something.
09:08Bob Greasy was much bigger on college.
09:10Yeah.
09:11I remember.
09:12Did a lot of college games.
09:13Then like pro football.
09:14But specific to commander's takeaways after yesterday, here's where I'm at.
09:17We already knew this.
09:18This was not a revelation last night, but we had a caller say something really smart
09:24a week or two ago, which was they need to build themselves to best be able to beat Philadelphia
09:32because that's the bully on your block.
09:34That is the best team in your division.
09:36They are going to be the team to contend with for the next several years.
09:39So where they're at their best, you've got to be strong defending that defensively where
09:43they get home.
09:44You've got to be at your best protecting against that.
09:48You saw it last night, anybody who doesn't want to upgrade the offensive line.
09:53I know it was pretty good.
09:55You have to, it's got to be great.
09:56Those guys are splendid and they're not all going to be back, but that's what they do.
10:00That's their formula.
10:01Similarly, on the other side of the ball, that is the best offensive line in the league.
10:05They do a really good job, not allowing you to get to Hertz who had plenty of time last
10:09night on three and five and seven step drops to drop the ball down the field.
10:13Rarely under duress.
10:14Right.
10:15If you've got the ball in the pocket, you've got to make an adjustment there, whether that's
10:18bringing in people movers on the interior, whether that's getting pass rushers like miles
10:24Garrett who can't be blocked unless two, three guys are working on them.
10:29That's got to be the plan is addressing your fronts because there's our elite.
10:34A hundred percent.
10:35And you know, I've now kind of adopted this, that you can, you can go back in recent history
10:39when there's a rivalry, that's one side where one team is way ahead of the other.
10:43Okay.
10:44And that's where it's been tilted.
10:45And it just so happens.
10:46This isn't, as I said, you know, the, I don't know, you can pick up the, the, the, the Atlanta
10:50Falcons trying to catch the tip of a bucks, right?
10:53It's not that, cause that's still for pittance.
10:54That's still for scraps from the table.
10:56This is trying to catch the most talented roster in the NFL.
11:00Everything you do should be with an eyeline towards them, because if you can beat them,
11:03I'll take my chances against anybody else, right?
11:05Michigan, Ohio state for all those years.
11:07Think about when Steve sprayer got to Florida, the first thing you said in his press conference,
11:11we've got to beat Georgia because Georgia had been waxing their, their clock over the
11:14last several years.
11:15I love waxing their clocks and expression, by the way, kind of went with it and hope
11:18that nobody called me on it.
11:19The clock was all waxed now because Georgia had Herschel Walker.
11:22I don't know.
11:23One by at least 30.
11:24Yeah.
11:25You, you dominated the game, but that's the point of the dude stories.
11:26That's gotta happen.
11:27And when you, when you, you're good enough to maybe beat, to beat that rival.
11:30Now you can take a chance with the rest of the league.
11:32This was a magical run, this NFC title game, which by the way, Washington was in, it's
11:36still incredible to think about, showed you that talent disparity.
11:41I think 27, 28, 29, 30 opponents, maybe last night would have lost to Philadelphia the
11:47way they were playing.
11:48I don't know.
11:49Buffalo gives them a better game.
11:50I don't know that anybody would, frankly.
11:51I mean, that, that was a dominant performance start to finish and to get to that level,
11:56there is no place where you don't go.
11:58Yeah.
11:59They could use some talent there.
12:00I think I'm with you on the trenches being the most critical, but again, two of the 20
12:03best wide receivers are, are on that roster top, whatever tight end is, as you alluded
12:07to with Goddard, the best running back in the game, probably there's no wrong answer
12:11to me to upgrade the talent spot or a spot for talent, by the way, Danny's in Rochester,
12:15New York here, but he's also in Rochester.
12:18What's up buddy?
12:19Hey guys.
12:20So I hate Philadelphia Eagles fans.
12:24I have nothing against, as you know, I have nothing against the players.
12:28I'm happy for them.
12:29Hey, Johan Dawson.
12:30Congratulations.
12:31KJ congratulations.
12:32I saw you on their practice squad.
12:36You know what?
12:37Even Nick Sirianni and Dom, you guys are annoying, but congrats who I hate are these Philadelphia
12:43Eagles fans who think that they're on the team, like more than any other fan base on
12:50earth.
12:51They think they're on the team and they think they have to do things.
12:54I was sitting, so my prize Jersey is Mark Brunel.
13:01That's my prize Jersey.
13:02Okay.
13:03I don't know.
13:04Just checking it down over there.
13:05I want you to continue, but that's very funny.
13:06He was the quarterback when I was 14.
13:10That's your guy.
13:11Right?
13:12So it was, I think it was 2013, I think it was the 2013 season, maybe 2014.
13:18It was in the wake of the RG three debacle.
13:22So I was sitting at FedEx field and a drunken Philadelphia fan made himself vomit on top
13:33of my Jersey.
13:34There is still a vomit stain on my prize Mark Brunel Jersey that I now have framed and hung
13:40up on my wall just so that every time Philadelphia wins a regular season game of Superbowl, a
13:49playoff game, which I have unfortunately had to watch them do a lot, a lot, man.
13:52I can look at it and just hate them further.
13:57I'm pretty sure that fan had not all of his teeth too, which makes the vomit grosser.
14:02Yes.
14:03The vomit gets worse on a, there's a way to have it go.
14:06That was not the only Eagles fan ever pulled that off.
14:08Yes.
14:09Because it actually was a viral clip where a guy got, I want to say may have gotten arrested.
14:13He said out of trouble there, but there was a little girl, not you, but a little girl
14:16sitting in front of him and he pulled triggers right on top of her.
14:20And that made the rounds for an extended period of time.
14:24So you are not alone in that exclusive club.
14:26But by the way, that there's, there was so much in there to unpack the Brunel jerseys,
14:31the prize possession, and he's my age.
14:33I get it.
14:34Yeah.
14:35He said he was about 14 then.
14:36Uh huh.
14:37That's your wheelhouse.
14:38Me too.
14:39I might be two years older than him or something like that.
14:40But when Mark Brunel was throwing the two touchdowns to Moss on Monday night for the
14:43miracle, your boy was 16.
14:48It's silly.
14:49The Mark Brunel Jersey.
14:50A lot of sort of other things.
14:53There were some things performances, but he didn't win a playoff game.
14:57He did.
14:58He threw for 105 yards.
14:59Did he, did he top 100 or was it sub 100?
15:01I think he 89 yards or something.
15:03I think it was like one Oh five.
15:04I don't know.
15:05We can look it up.
