03:00An Ecuadorian indigenous leader, Leonidas Issa, denounced on Sunday irregularities regarding
03:05the National Electoral Council during the presidential elections.
03:08Issa accused the National Electoral Council of being biased and warned of the lack of
03:13equality in the electoral process.
03:15In addition, he criticized the expenditure of over $130 million by the government of
03:19Daniel Novoa in this process.
03:22After being interrupted by members of the armed forces, Issa expressed his disagreement
03:26with the military disruption and affirmed that the government was influencing the electoral
03:30polls.
03:37The president and candidate for re-election, Daniel Novoa, suspended the event he had planned
03:41due to the adverse results.
03:44Novoa and his campaign team had prepared for this Sunday night an appearance in front of
03:47his supporters in a hotel in Quito, but the convocation was canceled.
03:53Novoa did not make any statements during the whole electoral day and was only seen when
03:58he went to vote very early in the morning.
04:01In social media, they reproached the president's attitude and accused him of lacking character
04:07and leadership.
04:09Let's review who are the favorite candidates in the February 9th presidential election.
04:16Luisa González, candidate of the Citizens' Revolution Party.
04:20González is a 47-year-old lawyer and former assemblywoman who has two master's degrees,
04:26one in senior management from the Instituto de Altos Estudios Nacionales and another in
04:31international economics from the Complutense University of Madrid.
04:36As a member of the Citizens' Revolution movement, she participated in the early elections
04:40of 2023.
04:41Her government plan focuses on five axes, justice for good living, security and order,
04:49economic well-being with equal opportunities, the fight against corruption, and ecological
04:53justice and energy transition for a clean and sustainable future.
04:58González has expressed her commitment to the real needs of the people, vowing to generate
05:04decent employment and guarantee access to health, education, as well as giving out scholarships
05:10and credits aimed at activating youth entrepreneurs.
05:14If González is elected, she will become the first woman president of Ecuador representing
05:18progressive, social, and leftist forces.
05:25The current president of Ecuador, Daniel Novoa, is betting that his promises to push forward
05:29ground-fighting initiatives started during his first administration and to address energy
05:33shortages will ensure his re-election.
05:37Candidate for the National Democratic Action Party, Daniel Novoa's son is the son of billionaire
05:42Álvaro Novoa Pontón.
05:44During his term in office, he has used presidential decrees to militarize the streets and facilitate
05:49security of businessmen in ports.
05:52His administration has been marked by a multidimensional crisis in the political sphere, but also bringing
05:57about economic recession, high levels of insecurity, and energy deficit.
06:02He opts for re-election with a participation in polls characterized by the violation of
06:06constitutional statutes and the lack of compliance with electoral regulations.
06:10Furthermore, in a desperate measure, Novoa militarized the northern and southern borders
06:16in the middle of the electoral campaign on the pretext of fighting armed groups.
