Two Taiwanese nationals pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Feb 10) to three counts of trafficking in firearms and possessing 900 rounds of ammunition last month.

00:00Two Taiwanese nationals pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Monday

00:15Twenty-six-year-old Chung Ming-hong and 33-year-old Sui Chon-ta were jointly accused of trafficking
00:2114 pistols and a submachine gun without a valid permit at a house in Desa Park City,
00:27Sentol at 5.30 p.m. on January 16.
00:32The charge under Section 7 of the Firearms Increased Penalties Act 1971, read with Section
00:3934 of the Penal Code, carries a prison term of 30 to 40 years and six strokes of the cane
00:46upon conviction.
00:48They were also charged under Section 36, Subsection 1 of the Arms Act 1960 with possessing an
00:53imitation 5.7 MK2P firearm and two empty magazines without a valid reason at the same
01:00time and place.
01:02If convicted, they face up to one year in prison, a fine not exceeding 5,000 ringgit,
01:08or both.
01:09Additionally, under Section 8, Subsection A of the Firearms Act 1971, they were charged
01:14with possessing 14 pistols, a submachine gun, and 900 rounds of ammunition without a valid
01:20permit.
01:21The offence carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison and six strokes of the
01:26cane.
01:27Judge Siti Shakira Motaruddin denied bail, citing the non-bailable nature of the offences,
01:33and set March 12 for case mention.
01:36Deputy Public Prosecutor Nizwan Abdul Latif prosecuted, while both accused remained unrepresented.
