More than 20 mayors from across Sydney gathered in Bondi today to discuss ways to improve social cohesion. It comes as the New South Wales government unveils changes to laws targeting hate crimes and antisemitism.

00:07to unify different communities across Sydney.
00:11Now mayors from different councils and political beliefs have all said that they agree on one
00:15thing and that's respect between different faiths and cultures.
00:20Just today the New South Wales government has revealed proposed hate speech legislation
00:25and that's in response to the vandalism that we've been seeing outside synagogues in particular.
00:32People found guilty of carrying out anti-semitic attacks could find themselves behind bars
00:37for up to two years.
00:39At a press conference today three mayors from different faiths and backgrounds all said
00:45that these sorts of attacks were unacceptable but so are attacks on people of different
00:50faiths and communities.
00:52Now to create unity the mayors have said at a local government level they will be creating
00:57social cohesion programs and encouraging people from different parts of Sydney to come together.
