00:00Live from Radio Row sports grids coverage of Super Bowl 59 Joe Lisi Greg Sussman and Pat Leonard of the New York
00:08Daily News and
00:10Talking Bowl podcast nice joins us. Yes. I got that
00:15Great atmosphere out here in New Orleans. What are your thoughts just about you know the city and and what we're gonna see on Sunday
00:21Well, I love the fact that
00:23It's such it's so centralized with the stadium the Convention Center Radio Row
00:28Media parties events everything's right in the heart of it
00:30It's one of the cities that has the most character and culture in our country. I think it's so unique. There's nothing like it
00:37It's a reason why I think they said they've hosted it 11 times now incredible
00:41I didn't realize that's that until I got here, but after being here for a day and a half
00:45I can understand why it's unbelievable
00:47I just think the atmosphere as a whole very welcoming and and you talk about the situation
00:53Currently with their own team in terms of Keller Moore potentially being the head coach a lot of talking points for the city in New
00:59Orleans just overall when you think about the game assessment have a pick for the game
01:04I think the Eagles win. I like the over in the game
01:08I think that even though the Eagles defense is incredibly impressive
01:13I do believe that both teams have firepower you see the 55 points from the Eagles
01:19I think the Kansas City Chiefs though when they get in this spot
01:22Patrick Mahomes makes the plays they're gonna get in the end zone
01:25I think you're gonna see a team that really doesn't score in the 30s score in the 30s in Kansas City
01:30But I like Philadelphia to win because I think they have more talent
01:33I think their offensive line is better
01:34And I do believe that the talent on their defense is going to make a play you think about
01:39When the Eagles won their only Super Bowl and knocked off the Patriots
01:43It's Brandon Graham knocking the ball out of Tom Brady's hand and really that was the only time they stopped the Patriots all game
01:49I think the Eagles are gonna have some problems, but they're gonna make that one play on defense whether it's Zach Bond Jalen Carter
01:56I think Jalen Carter probably ends up being the key to this game
01:59You could say that James Bradbury made a play in the last Super Bowl
02:02Just you know the the other side got involved not the Chiefs obviously the refs
02:06But you mentioned New Orleans being such a great host city
02:09It's kind of the opposite of MetLife Stadium where there's nothing and the city is very far away
02:16From MetLife, and it's just a completely opposite atmosphere, right?
02:20So I wanted to talk to you about the Giants and I wanted to talk of course about the quarterback situation
02:25Seemingly bungled bungled bungled every which way here. Yep. How do they not bungle it up this time?
02:33They're in a really awkward position Greg because if they let's say at number three
02:40You don't draft Cam Ward or Shadour Sanders and you take Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter
02:46You're adding a really good player to a hopefully sustainably good roster over the long haul
02:53But you haven't solved the quarterback problem. It's a stopgap like Jameis Winston or
02:59If you pay Sam Darnold, is that going to help you win right away and turn you into a good team?
03:05skeptical of that as well
03:07But if you draft Shadour if you draft Cam Ward if you go the rookie quarterback route
03:12Now the roster doesn't have that extra first-round talent to go along with Malik neighbors, right?
03:17And you're looking at the cupboard being bare around the quarterback and you're going back into the meeting after the fourth season of Joe
03:24Shane and Brian Day bull and it's probably another one more year John
03:29Conversation. So they're in a rock in a hard place
03:31See, I think now the situation with the New York Giants is similar to what Eber Flusch had in Chicago
03:36They should have never brought back Matt Eber Flusch with a rookie quarterback right coming in number one overall pick you blow it up
03:43You start fresh with a new offensive scheme. It was a recipe for disaster
03:48I can you can make the assessment that Caleb is in the same situation as Justin Fields a couple of years ago, right?
03:54So if the giant and I brought this up to our team
03:58I would talk about it consistently the biggest thing the New York Giants did and the worst thing they did was winning in year number
04:04Getting an over-exceeding
04:06Expectations beating Minnesota because in the New York fan base, it's go big or go home
04:11You cannot regress the way they have and in terms of Brian Day bull in this situation
04:17They're gonna have to make the playoffs for him to keep his job. Otherwise, where do they go from here?
04:22So I do feel that they can maybe get a bridge gap quarterback
04:26But who is that quarterback right and it wasn't just winning right away. It was like you said, it's the internal reaction to okay
04:33Are we good right? You have to look at yourself. Honestly, this is one thing the giant
04:38They're not the only organization that does this Joe, right, but they struggle to honestly assess themselves
04:44They had a very hard time after that
04:462022 season where of course they exceeded expectations all the way across the board
04:50They had a hard time saying but we're still not there yet. We need to be more honest about this
04:55I think you're absolutely right about the head coach and frankly, I mean nobody's going to say this or admit this I think Joe Shane
05:02Quietly if you gave him truth serum
05:03He would love to have a new head coach right now
05:06Because if you think about it drafting the young quarterback this year
05:10It should be a two-year process now at least to evaluate the player the front office the coach
05:17But with day bull as the holdover and Shane with the roster
05:21It becomes an awkward timeline how you would judge accountability, but the whole Joe Shane thing is what boggles my mind
05:26He comes out after that Midas after the Eagles loss a couple years ago, and he's like we're far away
05:31We we have to be much better to catch up to them and they don't write. They don't just revamp it
05:38They try to put some band-aids on they give Daniel Jones the contract extension and now here
05:42We are where we are now and then I like leaks out at the end of this year
05:45Hey, I'm not tied at the hip with Brian Dave. All right, like
05:49Okay, and now you're saying well
05:52I'd be happy if Brian Dave all wasn't here if I'm Joe Shane, so
05:56There's obviously this perception that Dave all is Shane's guy somebody leaks somewhere. He's not my guy. We're separated
06:04What is going on between Brian Dave all and Joe Shane? So
06:08The the United front they present cracked this season
06:13especially at the end of the year when they were retained Greg and
06:18They broke routine in
06:20Conducting separate press conferences
06:22And I don't mean like table was at the podium then walked off Shane walked by pat him on the shoulder walked over
06:29table did an
06:31Awkward podium on the field in the field house with the Super Bowl banners hanging and was actually very confrontational
06:38With us in the media and then at that time we didn't even know if Joe Shane was going to speak and then we walked
06:44In it turned out. Oh, yeah, he is going to be available
06:45He's going to be in the auditorium instead of at the dais the two of them sitting there
06:50Kumbaya all that they're not even putting on the front anymore. So where it stands is I
06:57This is what the one place I'll defend able is it would be ludicrous
07:02To say he's the problem and the roster isn't he is part of the problem and is
07:08Has to look in the mirror about how to fix what he's doing with the offensive with the team
07:12But Shane's drafts the misjudgment of how good they were
07:17The talent that hasn't worked out the trading of a second round pick for Brian Burns
07:21Who's a good player?
07:22But you paid him a lot of money and gave up an asset you could have used the second round pick on a corner you
07:27Clearly desperately needed and you could have gotten a Jonathan Granard for less money and paid Saquon Barkley and paired him with Malik neighbors
07:35Maybe Daniel Jones still was validating that contract right now, so it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback
07:40But the point is where do table and Shane stand? It's kind of like well your point to me
07:44We'll look at both of us right and this is the one thing I would say
07:48It was very telling that John Mara said well, I told Brian table
07:52I'd prefer he doesn't call plays right but his review of Joe Shane was I love our process, right?
07:57So you can see that it does feel like even going into this year. I still think table seat is hotter than Shane's
08:04They're both hot, but I think tables is hotter. I agree because he's the head coach
08:08He can move on and you could always say that we didn't have the right head coach
08:11I think it's possible to fold that the success of Saquon whether he wins the Super Bowl or not will magnify the
08:18Situation even that much more in the offseason and the other factor is maybe tables just a better coordinator than he is a head coach
08:25I mean we've seen coordinators right especially on the defensive side of the ball Dennis Allen and all the defensive
08:31Masterminds that succeed you couldn't succeed as a head coach Staley goes into that mix
08:36Offensively he might be that guy fair point and the thing he struggled with two years ago when he wasn't a play caller was that he
08:42Wasn't the play call right and he started taking it back and forth game to game gave it to his quarterbacks coach
08:47So John Mara thinks the plan is to now give it back and how he's not gonna keep his hands out of it
08:51He can't he already proved he can't yeah, and the office coordinator
08:55Clearly doesn't like him
08:56So I don't understand how this whole balance is going to work when the rumor comes out that Mike Kafka is gonna make Wig
09:02Martin the hell is defensive coordinator if he comes to New Orleans
09:05There is so much internal strife with New York Giants on every level. It just seems completely out of whack for me
09:11It's very interesting because the players in large part like table personally
09:14He spends a lot of time on the locker room, but with his staff that has been the problem
09:19Obviously the biggest problem though is that they've had the 30th and 31st ranked offense the last two years
09:24For him offensive head coach play caller. That's the biggest deal. Yeah, we'll see
09:28We're coming right back live from Radio Row sports bridge coverage of Super Bowl 59 coming right back more NFL
09:35College action keep it where it is
