00:00In Venezuela, the first National Public Consultation of 2025 is underway.
00:05Venezuelans go to the polls to choose the project that their communities need.
00:10The Minister of Communes, Ángel Parado, informed that there are more than 36,000 projects nominated
00:16for this Sunday voting, where more than 5,000 will be elected.
00:21The remaining projects will also have the opportunity to be developed.
00:25Also the proposals were discussed by the communities themselves in open assemblies.
00:32The more than 1,100 parishes in the Bolivarian nation go to the 5,245 electoral centers to
00:42cast their votes on this community-driven initiative.
00:53And as we are saying this Sunday, Venezuelans vote in the first National Public Consultation
00:57of 2025 to choose the projects to be financed through the state's public budget, effectively
01:04going more voice to the people's power.
01:07Our correspondent Melen De Los Santos with more on this.
01:10Hello, Melen.
01:11How are you?
01:12Can you give us the remarks at this hour?
01:15Hello, Ana, how are you?
01:19It's great to talk to you.
01:20And we are here in Caracas, as you were just saying, actually in the Ana Karina Rote Commune
01:27in the San Juan Parish here in southwestern Caracas.
01:31Here is where we are.
01:33And what you are seeing right behind me, that is not just a lot of citizens coming to vote
01:39and participate in this public consultation.
01:42This is actually the government in exercise.
01:45Today, these people coming here to choose on these projects are a form of the government.
01:51That is what we were just talking about with the neighbors here at this parish, also with
01:56the leaders of this commune, the spokespersons, you know that the commune have different spokespersons
02:02related to each topic.
02:04And what they were telling us, what they were transmitting is this idea that the mandate
02:12to really, for the people to take charge of this government, to exercise their mandate
02:18to decide on what they need for their territories is happening today, has been happening in
02:25the past consultations, and this one, that is the first one this year, and that is the
02:29third one so far since last year, has had a great turnout.
02:34We were just talking also, you could see behind me, there's a long line waiting, people that
02:39keep on coming.
02:41Just recall that it's 4.30 p.m. in Caracas at this moment.
02:45We've been here since 8 a.m. touring different neighborhoods, and every time we arrive at
02:51one of these communes or communal circuits, it's the same image.
02:56We have at least one block of people waiting to exercise their vote.
03:00The people keep on coming, the lines keep on forming, even there are people that are
03:05going back to their homes to come back later because the centers are already full.
03:11And that is a really good sign that the people really understand that this is a moment of
03:16participation, and this is a moment for them to decide on their territories.
03:22And it's a good sign, that's what the leaders of these communes, the members of the communes
03:26were saying.
03:28It's a good sign that they are trusting this process of change.
03:32Thank you very much, Valen, for your remarks and information.
03:36Hope to have you in our next news brief.
