00:26airstrike on a house in Tammun in the northern occupied West Bank.
00:34And the Israeli occupation forces cut roads, demolished houses and attacked civilians in
00:40villages south of the Lebanese border.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:55We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:10Authorities recovered more than 30 bodies from the Potomac River after a passenger plane
01:15and a military helicopter collided in Washington, D.C., in the United States.
01:20With no reports of survivors, search and rescue teams continue to work to recover the
01:25bodies of 64 passengers and crew from the plane and three from the helicopter.
01:31A team of divers has recovered two black box recorders from the crash site, which show
01:37that the operators asked the helicopter if the plane was in sight before the crash, but
01:42did not receive an answer.
01:44The American Airlines plane was on a domestic flight between Ouachita and Washington, D.C.
01:50when it crashed and landed at the Regan International Airport.
01:58On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump confirmed that there were no survivors of
02:03the plane crash and held a minute's silence for the victims.
02:06I request a moment of silence.
02:10The work has now shifted to a recovery mission.
02:15Sadly, there are no survivors.
02:19This was a dark and excruciating night in our nation's capital and in our nation's history
02:25and a tragedy of terrible proportions.
02:28As one nation, we grieve for every precious soul that has been taken from us so suddenly
02:36and we are a country of, really, we are in mourning.
02:43The Congolese President Felice Etich Sekedi condemned the presence of thousands of Rwandan
02:48soldiers who support the M23 offensive in the west of the nation.
02:55The presence of thousands of Rwandan soldiers on our land, their political, logistical and
02:59military support to their M23 puppets, as well as their involvement in the illegal exploitation
03:04of our natural resources are leading us directly to an escalation with unforeseeable consequences
03:09endangering the entire Great Lakes region.
03:14In this context, the Congolese head of state condemned the international community's inaction
03:19as the Eastern Region 70 is being violated.
03:24Their silence and inaction, witnessing the Kigali regime's barbarism and atrocities are
03:28an affront to our country and to the universal values of justice and peace.
03:32The Congolese people takes note of this passivity approaching complicity.
03:39And now we have a short break coming up.
03:40But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English, where you'll find news
03:44in different formats, news updates and more.
03:48Stay with us.
04:10Welcome back to From the South.
04:19The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that at least 10 citizens were killed in an Israeli
04:23airstrike in a house in Chamoun in the northern occupied West Bank.
04:28According to local media, 10 deaths have been confirmed, although it is believed that the
04:32number could be higher.
04:34The Israeli army confirmed the drone strike, claiming it targeted an alleged armed cell.
04:41In response, the Palestinian resistance movement condemned the operation in Chamoun and the
04:45ongoing crimes of the occupation in the West Bank.
04:52In Palestine, the resistance fights Tel Aviv's aggression against the West Bank, inflicting
04:57casualties on the Israeli army.
04:59Palestinian resistance fighters engaged in fierce clashes with the occupation on several
05:04axes in Jenin and Tulkarem in the northern West Bank.
05:08According to the Arab Defense Forces, Israeli military vehicles were attacked with machine
05:13guns and explosive devices.
05:15It should be noted that the Israeli occupation forces restricted the access of ambulances
05:20and demolished and burned houses in the West Bank, killing at least 18 Palestinians, injuring
05:26dozens and displacing people.
05:32The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expatriates rung alarm bells on the fact
05:37that the Kenset passed a bill to allow Israeli settlers to purchase Palestinian lands in
05:43the occupied West Bank.
05:45The ministry considered that the measure represents a deepening of the invasion on the West Bank,
05:51including East Jerusalem, and the application of Israeli laws in the occupied Palestinian
05:55territory, in flagrant violation of international law and disregard for international legitimacy
06:01and its resolutions, as well as the Geneva Conventions and signed agreements.
06:06The Israeli bill further constitutes a new episode in the plans of genocide, displacement
06:11and annexation, with the target of wiping Palestinians off the face of the earth.
06:20Lately the Hamas Palestinian Resistance Movement released some hostages as part of the hostage
06:25for prisoners swap.
06:27Our collaborator Huda Hegassi provides us more details.
06:33I am right now at the Khan Yunis Governorate, southern Gaza Strip, right in front of the
06:38house of the Hamas leader.
06:40Right here the hostages for prisoners swap will be held by the military wing of Al-Qassad
06:45Brigades belonging to the Hamas movement, in cooperation with the Islamic Jihad of Al-Quds
06:51Brigades.
06:52Right now, as we can see, the hostages for prisoners swap will be conducted here, and
06:57it has started with a military parade on the side of the combatants of the Hamas Palestinian
07:02Resistance Movement.
07:04And this military parade is being thrown for showing the world, and mostly for showing
07:09the Israeli regime, that the resistance continues to have that strength and power that the occupation
07:17regime during the genocidal war didn't manage to defeat the Palestinian resistance, most
07:23of all the Hamas movement.
07:25Its combatants, in addition to the Islamic Jihad, as we can see right now, the International
07:30Red Cross cars are heading for the Hamas leader's house, where the hostages will be
07:36released and handed over to authorities, so they can transfer them to the Keren-Shalom
07:42border crossing, and there they will be released.
07:46We have to say that from here, from the Khan Yunis area, the released hostage is Arbil
07:51Yehud and the 80-year-old senior, so here they will release two hostages, as they had
07:59already released the rest of the northern area, exactly at the Havalia refugee camp.
08:07The 19-year-old youngster and the five Thai hostages, as we can see right now, cars arriving,
08:15in which Israeli hostages are inside.
08:18We are referring that here, in those cars, the hostages are Arbil Yehud and the 80-year-old
08:23senior are inside the cars, and as we can see the crowd, so many people gather here
08:29in this place to conduct the hostages for prisoners swap.
08:34This can be considered a historical act, in which the Palestinian resistance is releasing
08:40the Israeli hostages, so it is proven that the resistance is the only one having the
08:46first and last word, and not the Israeli regime.
08:55The Israeli occupation forces cut roads, demolished houses and attacked civilians in villages
09:00south of the Lebanese border.
09:02The Tel Aviv occupation has once again violated the ceasefire agreement by carrying out a
09:07bulldozer operation in the border town of Aldari, Daira.
09:11An Israeli drone also dropped a bomb near a family inspecting their home on the outskirts
09:16of the village of Tal Usa.
09:19In this context, since the ceasefire came into force on November 27th, Israel has violated
09:25the ceasefire more than 1,300 times without being condemned by the monitoring mechanisms
09:32that are supposed to ensure compliance with what has already been agreed.
09:40Syrian de facto terrorist government disbanded the People's Assembly, as well as other national
09:46and political institutions and laws.
09:48The facto authorities announced Wednesday the abrogation of the constitution, including
09:52all associated amendments.
09:54Likewise, they unfolded dismissing the People's Assembly, which had been set during Bashar
10:00al-Assad's government.
10:02In addition, they disbanded the committees derived from that entity.
10:06They further informed that a temporary legislative council will be created for the transitional
10:12stage until a permanent constitution be enacted.
10:21And we have a second short break coming up, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube

10:50Welcome back to From the South.
10:52Ecuador's election campaign continues amid a security crisis and political tensions between
10:57President Daniel Nobuo and Vice President Perón y Cabad.
11:00A few days before the elections, the 17 candidates for the presidency of the country intensified
11:07their campaign events in different regions to present their proposals.
11:10Among the most recurrent problems and solutions addressed by the candidates, the security
11:14of the citizens and the increase in the national employment rate stand out.
11:19Ecuador is facing a serious security crisis due to the presence of criminal groups linked
11:24to drug trafficking, a situation that affects daily life and the country's economy.
11:39Panamanian workers' union announced demonstrations on Thursday to reject the approval of a bill
11:45on the social security fund.
11:47The workers denounced that the law promoted by the executive aims to hand over the funds
11:53to the banks and the pension administrators, an intention that they consider unacceptable.
11:59In this sense, the representatives of the National Confederation of Independent Trade
12:03Union Unity pointed out that they had been summoned to a meeting of the Health Commission
12:08of the legislature without taking into account their proposals for amendments to the initiatives
12:13presented by the government.
12:21Days before the first national public consultation of 2025, Telesur visited different communes
12:27to note the transformations that their inhabitants have carried out through this democratic and
12:32participative initiative.
12:34Belén de los Santos with more details from El Panal 2021 commune.
12:40On Sunday February 2nd, the communes and communal circuits of Venezuela will go to the polls.
12:46Instead of electing representatives, Venezuelans will be able to directly decide which community
12:51projects will be financed in their territories.
12:55This is the third national public consultation, another chapter in the construction of Bolivarian
13:01participative and protagonist democracy.
13:04In the El Panal 2021 commune, located in the iconic 23 de Enero parish in Caracas, this
13:11new instance of popular organization is eagerly awaited.
13:19With lots of joy, with much enthusiasm, in recent days we held an assembly with our nine
13:24communities, where they postulated six projects ranging from repairs to cultural spaces, fixing
13:29of leaks in our buildings, in our houses.
13:33We have tried to ensure that the reality of our communities is represented in this participation
13:37of the 2025 national public consultation.
13:46The two previous national consultations held in 2024 have already left their mark in El
13:51Panal.
13:52At that time, the residents of the commune decided to finance the renovation of a staircase
13:57of vital importance for the daily life of the commune, and the purchase of an ambulance
14:02to guarantee the transfers to health centers.
14:05These projects are now a reality.
14:11The ambulance is for us our first executed project.
14:14It was really an initiative of our people, it has changed the community a lot.
14:19Now from the people's power it is possible with a lot of effort to have our own means
14:22for the transfer and health care of our people.
14:28And truly, many people, both here in building 28 and in the whole community, have benefited
14:33from having the ambulance, people from here and from outside, so it is very good, it really
14:38is.
14:40For the neighbors of El Panal, the consultation evidences the steps taken by the Bolivarian
14:45government to achieve a participative and protagonist democracy, based on the strengthening
14:51of the popular power.
14:53This relation between the government and the grassroots, popular power, is fundamental
14:58to really reorganize the whole of society, to put the people al mando, we would say in
15:06Spanish, in control of their own lives, collectively, not individually, the people, the working
15:12class, in charge of their history, of their daily life, of their economy, that is basically
15:21what the communists and these councils are an exercise that helps us go in that direction.
15:30The walls of El Panal speak of a history of struggle and a clear horizon for the future.
15:36The consolidation of popular power and the creative capacity of the inhabitants to transform
15:41their own territory.
15:43In this sense, the public consultations are a step farther on the road to this dignified
15:48and sobering destiny.
15:52Because here they do not come to do what others think is convenient for us, or what they think
15:56we need.
15:57We have a plan, and that work plan is called a concrete agenda of action, what we want
16:02in the short, medium and long term.
16:05On February 2nd, the people come out, they wake up very early to go out to vote, to choose.
16:10We get the results, and then this government, this communal government, this new government
16:14of the communes, goes out and carries out these projects, executes them financially
16:19and with its qualified labor force, because we have that force.
16:22Belén de los Santos, Denise Aravi, Fortaleza Sur, Caracas, Venezuela.
16:30And we are to Cuba, where the sixth international conference on world balance, under the name
16:34of With All and for the Youth of All, is being held in Havana.
16:39The conference brings together 900 delegates from 93 countries and 400 Cubans, and it's
16:45a world meeting of plural and multidisciplinary ideas held every two years by UNESCO's José
16:51Martí Project for International Solidarity.
16:53During the opening session on Tuesday, the coordinator of the event's organizing committee
16:58stressed the urgency to build a better future, as dreamed by Cuba's national hero, José
17:04Martí.
17:05He pointed out that Cuba does not organize these conferences to gain credits, but thinking
17:10about the human race, which is subjected to an international conflict and arms race and
17:15climate change and social injustices across the world.
17:18The conference will close on Friday, January 31st.
17:26In this context, Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, senior researcher at the Center for Martí Studies,
17:31pointed out the importance of Martí's deeds in achieving Cuban independence when Spain
17:36and the United States were trying to colonize the country.
17:43I always remember Fidel speaking to us about how terrible Martí must have felt following
17:47he had almost lost the expeditions to Cuba at the end of 1994 and the beginning of 1995,
17:53when the US authorities seized all ships and weapons, and how Martí was crushed into it
17:58for a moment.
17:59His letters revealed so.
18:02In addition, those conversations with student masses evidence that Fidel had almost learned
18:07by heart.
18:10How Martí rose above all that, managed to solve everything and managed to push forward.
18:17Maybe not with all conditions he had planned, but with most of them, the War of Independence
18:21in 1895.
18:27Also the Brazilian Dominican friar and writer Frei Beto stated that both Martí and Fidel
18:32left an invaluable work in Cuba, as is the Cuban Revolution.
18:44I am also impressed by the fact that the two of them have done unique deeds in the history
18:48of revolutions.
18:53What did Lenin do?
18:55Well, not only Lenin, but many indeed.
18:58They united their intellectual lives to the armed struggles.
19:05To their commitment to go forward giving example, so ensuring their ideas get into practice,
19:10they took up arms to achieve the success of the liberation of Cuba from the Spanish colony
19:15and the liberation of Cuba from the US empire.
19:22Why is it impressive?
19:23What impressed me the most is that Martí by living just 42 years, he left a very vast
19:28and diversified work.
19:33The same goes for Fidel, Fidel lived twice as long as Martí, but he also left a priceless
19:42work and perhaps the most priceless of all works is called the Cuban Revolution.
19:53And we have come to the end of this news brief, but remember you can find this and many other
19:57stories on our website at www.tellassetenglish.net and join us on social media.
