00:00Obesity affects 6 million Italians, 12% of the population.
00:10Being influenced by genetic, endocrine, environmental and psychological mechanisms,
00:15it is not enough to eat less and move more to heal.
00:19To put an end to this commonplace and to eradicate the stigma that affects people who live with obesity,
00:24the pharmaceutical company Lilly, with the sponsorship of the association Patients, Friends, Obesity, Onlus,
00:29has launched the campaign
00:31Losing weight does not depend only on you, your body can make resistance.
00:35To inaugurate the initiative, the installation of the Impossible Gym in Piazza dei Cinquecento in Rome was carried out,
00:42which symbolizes the resistance of the body to weight loss,
00:46a biological phenomenon that makes particularly difficult the loss of weight and its maintenance over time.
00:52We have already launched the website patologiaobesità.it,
00:56where there is information about the disease of obesity,
01:01and then today with this installation of Impossible Gym,
01:05where there are tools that are not usable,
01:07because as you can see there are these yellow bands that make the resistance,
01:12for someone who wants to use them,
01:14so the body can also resist weight loss.
01:19And so we want to once again aim this message to the public,
01:23to say that we must not put the burden on the patients,
01:26because these patients have a disease that must be recognized.
01:30During the week there will be dietitians who will do the BMI measurement,
01:35but there will also be specialists who will also do a type of masterclass for the public
01:41to share with them aspects of the disease of obesity.
01:47And once again Lely is trying to raise the awareness of the public
01:52about another disease that affects more than 6 million Italians.
01:56Obesity brings with it an important number of possible complications,
02:01especially in the cardiocirculatory and respiratory system.
02:05Obesity is a systemic disease, a chronic, progressive disease,
02:09which tends to develop very serious complications,
02:13cardiovascular, respiratory, pulmonary, renal,
02:17also many tumors, in addition to the disabilities associated with obesity
02:21and joint diseases of various types.
02:23Here is that obesity, in this vision,
02:26is probably the main challenge for health,
02:30for the Italian health system and also globally.
02:35The impact of obesity on the quality of life,
02:37on social and health costs is alarming.
02:40It is therefore essential the active involvement of institutions
02:43to combat the phenomenon and promote healthy lifestyles.
02:47With the last law of balance we have instituted a fund,
02:51at my first signature, which in fact is a small first but important step,
02:56thanks to a funding of over 4 million euros
03:00to recognize obesity as a chronic pathology.
03:03It clearly must be a cultural process
03:06that sees in the first person the basic doctors,
03:12the regions, the national health service,
03:15being protagonists of this path
03:18that must lead our society to be a healthier society.
