Every year thousands of people call 999 across Wales for life threatening serious injuries, but thousands also call the service for less than life threatening injuries. The Welsh Ambulance Service has revealed some of the silliest reasons people rang about, and this year there are some really daft ones.

00:06injuries and serious illnesses call the service every year, but there are all too many people
00:11without those life-threatening injuries who also call 999.
00:15The Welsh Ambulance Service have revealed some of the sillier calls they've received
00:18over the last 12 months, including someone getting their finger stuck in a beer bottle,
00:23someone who chipped their tooth, and for a pet alligator who escaped.
00:28There are plenty more silly calls, including people who are locked out of their house,
00:31and plenty that clearly should have used 111 for their problems instead of the emergency
00:35line.
00:36The service says that over 60,000, or roughly 15% of calls to 999, were not life-threatening
00:42and have urged people to use common sense when calling for an ambulance.
00:46Andy Swinburne, an executive at the service, says our emergency ambulance service exists
00:50for those whose life is in immediate danger. Most people know the difference between an
00:54emergency and something that is just uncomfortable or irritating.
