00:00A symbol of national harmony, the MCA Chinese New Year open house in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday
00:12drew a vibrant mix of locals and foreigners, all celebrating the festive spirit of Malaysia's
00:18diverse cultural heritage.
00:20The event was graced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
00:24MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Kasiung said, despite the event being celebrated in moderation,
00:30the spirit of unity amongst the people made the open house more meaningful.
00:54Guests at the MCA Chinese New Year open house praised it as a vibrant showcase
01:20of Malaysia's multicultural unity.
01:23This is the fourth time we are here. Every year we are here because we just live opposite
01:30and we feel very good. It's a very good event.
01:35So Malaysia is the only country we have open house. We live in peace and harmony. We enjoy
01:41peace. Malaysians of all races, Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Europeans from other countries,
01:48all join this open house.
01:49This is the first time to celebrate Chinese New Year. I thought I'm going to bring her
01:54here to see some Chinese New Year lion dance. It's amazing to expose her in our culture,
02:02in Malaysian culture, where we celebrate three different celebrations like Hari Raya,
02:08Chinese New Year, Depak Bali. So it's really quite fascinating.
02:13So my mum's from Malaysia, but my dad's from the UK.
02:17But they suggested that we come along for Chinese New Year to celebrate with them,
02:21which is quite nice. We celebrate it in England normally, but it's very different over there
02:27because we don't have the decorations and things. But here everyone celebrates it and
02:31it's all red and very festive. So yes, it's quite nice to be here.
02:36Guests were treated to various dishes, including fried noodles, rendang,
02:41Chinese tea, assorted pastries and mandarin oranges.
02:45The event also featured lion dance, traditional dance and singing performances.
