00:00The 17 Filipino sailors who were rescued by the Houthi rebels while sailing to India are now safe and can return home.
00:07President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. is extremely grateful for all the help to save the Filipino seafarers and their families.
00:16Kenneth Paciente of PTV Manila has the details of the national news.
00:22After more than a year, the 17 Filipino seafarers were released after being rescued by the Houthi rebels in November 2023.
00:33President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. himself announced this development.
00:38The Filipino seafarers are now in the care of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, Oman.
00:44They were able to return to the Philippines to be with their families in an easier time.
00:50The Executive Board of the Philippine Embassy in Oman and the Sultanate of Oman also thanked them for their efforts to free the Filipino seafarers.
00:59At the same time, the Chief Executive of the Concerned Philippine Government Agency and the private sector
01:06who did their best to help the foreign government entities to free the Filipino seafarers.
01:14In November 2023, the Houthi hijacked the Galaxy Leader ship while it was on its way to India
01:20where 25 crew members were rescued, including 17 Filipinos.
01:26Since then, the President strongly urged the Filipino seafarers to put their safety first.
01:33They will also remember that the President canceled his visit to the Convention on Climate Change in Dubai in November 2023 to address the situation.
01:42Again, the Chief Executive of the Philippine Embassy in Oman and the Sultanate of Oman also thanked them for their efforts to free the Filipino seafarers.
01:47That is why the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers was enacted.
01:51It is for their well-being and for them to be assured that their rights in various aspects such as equal opportunity, education, and training and development will be followed by international standards.
