00:42To avoid this, there are a few things to remember according to Scamwatch Philippines.

00:47First, if the picture of the person you're talking to is too good to be true,

00:50no verification symbol, no social media account,

00:54including the refusal to make a video call, not making an income, and asking for money.

00:59Most of these red flags were experienced by Alias Juliet and a few victims of Modus

01:04while she was working as a domestic helper in Kuwait in 2023.

01:08According to her, due to sadness and being far from her family, she downloaded a dating app

01:12where she talked to a Norwegian, national, and soldier assigned in Yemen.

01:17He's handsome. He has a strong body.

01:20He's sweet. When it comes to messages and conversations,

01:27I feel like my heart is falling for him.

01:30Have you eaten? How are you?

01:34How's your day? Your job?

01:37He'll call you baby. I've never experienced that.

01:41She started her argument that he won't allow her to make a video call

01:45and started asking for money.

01:47First, he told me that his bank account was held.

01:54He said that he needs this amount to open.

01:59That's what he asked for. 20,000.

02:03I told him I don't have that kind of money.

02:05I just sent him my money.

02:07He said, can't you borrow from your boss?

02:10In one month, he's kind to me.

02:15I thought he was real. But he's a scammer.

02:19Based on the data of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center,

02:23seven cases were filed every day in 2023 and 2024.

02:29According to our statistics, the peak was 15 in February.

02:33According to CICC Executive Director Alexander Ramos,

02:36Filipinos have a right to be loved and appreciated.

02:40The way we are victimized is not the way they victimize from other countries.

02:45So we have a profile. And they know we are highly vulnerable.

02:50And they know Filipinos are hardworking, that's why they have a lot of savings.

02:55CICC also added to these modus, there are organized groups behind it.

03:09Most of the love scams, LDR, are foreigners.

03:16According to CICC, if a possible scammer gives information earlier,
