00:00DICT is warning politicians about the use of IMSI Capture because the agency believes that they are the possible target of the Malaysian National who was arrested because of its supply.

00:17The Department of Information and Communication Technology or DICT believes that they are the possible target of the Malaysian National who was arrested because of its supply of IMSI Capture.

00:33According to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, the use of IMSI Capture by text blasts can be beneficial for the politician because he can reach more people in his campaign.

00:51According to Calihim, the demand for IMSI Capture is increasing whenever the election is nearing.

00:59In the past elections, we have seen that MC Captures are being used for text blasting.

01:07In the past, these equipments can be sold to politicians, especially for election purposes.

01:17But DICT warns politicians about the use of IMSI Capture.

01:22We would like to remind the candidates that these equipments are illegal, they are not licensed, they are subject to confiscation and criminal prosecution if you possess these devices.

01:39This is covered under the regulatory agency of the National Telecommunications Commission, the NPC.

01:47Because of its illegal sale on social media, Mr. Uy said that it can be bought here in the country.

01:54Surrender. Voluntarily surrender those devices because we caught the supplier.

02:04It's just a matter of time. We will know who sold those devices.

02:10When we find out, we will catch you.

02:13Currently, the Malaysian national suspect is under inquest proceedings and is facing multiple cases.

02:20The PNP-ACG is also consulting their counterparts in Malaysia to determine the identity of the suspect.

02:28According to CICC Executive Director Alexander Ramos, the suspect is one of the largest suppliers of IMSI Capture in the country.

02:37IMSI Capture is an electronic device capable of tracking and intercepting mobile phone communications.

02:45It is usually called a fake cell tower or rogue cell tower.

02:49It is capable of imitating a cell tower and can connect nearby cell phones to IMSI Capture.

02:57And with the indication that there is an IMSI Capture in the area, the signal is weakened.

03:02Just like the signal drop from LTEO 5G to 2G.
