00:00What's going on everyone. Welcome back into Patriots
00:20Press Pass. A little fun one here. Late night action for
00:23myself and Taylor Kyles taking a look at the NFL's
00:26divisional round. I feel like we're taking over for our
00:29friends, Pat Lane and Matt St. Jean. They're usually the
00:31night on Sunday nights, but you guys got us tonight. If
00:35you're if you're interested, if you're tuning in, this is
00:37an addition of the Patriots postgame show. No Patriots
00:40game because that team doesn't make the playoffs just
00:43yet, but we're gonna use these four games to tie some
00:46things in from a Patriots perspective and I think as
00:50timely as it is, Taylor, we should start with what just
00:53happened in Buffalo. The Bills squeaking away with a 2724
00:57win over the Baltimore Ravens who I'll quickly give my
01:01piece on Lamar Jackson. I have been not a Lamar Jackson
01:06hater. He's sensational. He's great. He was great in
01:09college. He's great in the pros when he started and came
01:12in for Joe Flacco in his rookie year, he was objectively
01:15a bad passer. So I have that taste in my mouth from his
01:18rookie year and I've always just said, I don't think he's
01:21gonna get over the hump now. He's proven me wrong on the
01:24field. He's become a great passer. He's sensational. He's
01:27one of the best quarterbacks in football, but I always get
01:30this playoff Lamar taste in my mouth and it started early
01:32with the two turnovers early, but he comes back, drives him
01:35down the field, gets them in prime position to tie it and
01:39Mark Andrews drops that **** two-point conversion where he
01:42could have just grabbed it and fell in the end zone, tied it
01:44and send it to overtime. That was my reaction. Just Mark, I
01:47didn't even know what to say. I felt so bad for him because
01:50two drives earlier, he caught a pass first down, tried to
01:53deke someone out and got the ball punched out and that was
01:56worse. That was way worse than I think the drop two point like
01:59you're a tight end. My dude, put your shoulder down and
02:02fight for extra yards. What are you doing like the poor guy can
02:05barely move as it is. That was that was tough, man. The
02:08Ravens gifted that one away. They they play. They didn't
02:11play their best football by any means. Like I said, two
02:13turnovers from Lamar, the one from Mark Andrews and they
02:17still only lose by two to the Bills who now go on to take on
02:21the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, I saw someone on that on that
02:25Mark Andrews play where he kind of he caught the ball and then
02:29he tried to like duke someone out and he just he got, you
02:31know, he got himself turned around, didn't know where he
02:33was going. The ball gets punched out and I saw a clip of
02:35Travis Kelsey from like 3 years ago where he tries to do the
02:39same thing but he's actually successful and runs the ball
02:41across the goal line for an overtime touchdown for the
02:43Chiefs. He's like, Mark Andrews was trying to be. I know exactly
02:45what you're talking about. Yeah. Clearly, he's not Travis
02:48Kelsey yet but I guess to tie this one into the Patriots, the
02:53two, the two things I looked at here, Taylor, were first and
02:57foremost and as we kind of know but it's become more
02:59understood, I guess, you know, over the last maybe three or
03:03four years, how important it is to to have a first-round
03:07quarterback, right? And now, it's not always the case that
03:10they're a first-rounder but the the best quarterbacks tend to
03:13come from the first round. You look at Lamar and Josh in that
03:16same draft class. You look at Patrick Mahomes from a few
03:18classes ago. On the other side, Jalen Hurts is a second-round
03:21pick but then Jaden Daniels first-round pick which we'll
03:23get to when we recap Washington and the Lions a little later on
03:27in the show but the quarterback is mega important and I think
03:32on that front with the Patriots, we're super lucky to have
03:35Drake May. The other thing is and I'll ask you, the Patriots
03:39are in the AFC East. The Bills are headed to their, I was just
03:44writing about it and they are headed to their second AFC
03:47Championship game in 4 years and they've also only been
03:50taken down by the Chiefs in three of the last four post
03:52seasons but this is the team that the Patriots are going to
03:55have to square up against year in and year out from now on if
03:57they want to get over their own hump. How close are they to the
04:01current Buffalo Bills? Not very close. I mean, look, the
04:05hardest things to get done, get the quarterback, get the head
04:09coach. We think that right now, they've done that and I think
04:13that it's just the biggest thing to me is yes, the
04:16quarterbacks. Obviously, you need one of those high-end
04:19quarterbacks to keep you in these games because you need
04:21the guys that are creative, that can make plays but also
04:24that protects the football and don't make a lot of key
04:27mistakes and that was really the biggest takeaway from this
04:31whole weekend was that it was just a lot of teams that were
04:34inexperienced kind of just throwing up on themselves and
04:38busting themselves the game like Lamar, the fumble, it's
04:40tough, the conditions and everything but you got the
04:42throw where it's not even close to his receiver. He gets it
04:45picked off. The Mark Andrews fumble and drop like both huge
04:48even if you talk about like the commanders and the Lions, the
04:51Lions making a lot of uncharacteristic kind of
04:53mistakes that ultimately cost them and then the fact they have
04:56Jaden Daniels, such a dynamic passer obviously help make the
04:59difference in that game. So, yeah, I think having that dual
05:02threat quarterback, we saw also the offensive line like a lot
05:05of these games have been won in the trenches where by the end
05:08of the game, it's very clear that one side is dominating. We
05:11saw that with the Eagles. We saw it with the Bills. We've
05:14seen it with the Chiefs. We saw it with the commanders like you
05:17need to be able to pound the other team in a submission and
05:20when you have the great front, you have a well-coached team
05:23that doesn't commit those mistakes and doesn't put
05:26themselves in these bad positions and you have an
05:28offensive line and a defensive line that can wear down on the
05:31opponent throughout the game and by the fourth quarter, you
05:34do start to see those momentum swings where clearly one side
05:37has the advantage. I think those are the big takeaways to
05:39me is the quarterback being well coached and not making
05:43your own mistakes and then on top of that, gotta load up in
05:46the trenches. 100%. They have to load up in the trenches and I
05:48think that's where and how we transition to the first game
05:52from Sunday which was the Rams versus the Eagles. Another
05:56tight one where the the Los Angeles Rams come down and they
06:01don't get as close as the as the Baltimore Ravens do where
06:05they don't actually get in the end zone but they make it
06:07awfully close. They make it a game through the snow. West
06:10Coast team coming east. Matthew Stafford, I saw your
06:13tweet that that dime he dropped to puke on the sideline was
06:17some of the best. Oh my god. One of the best I've seen all
06:20season long really and he said it's so subtle for him too like
06:23I think I mean he's been one of my favorite players in the
06:26league for a long time but especially since he's been in
06:28LA where he's really in groove and in a sink with that that
06:32Sean McVay offense and he's got just every tool in his
06:37toolbox and you know that throw obviously showed at the most
06:40but then they come out just shy just flat and lose twenty-eight
06:44to twenty-two and Saquon Barkley. I've been wrong about
06:47running backs, man. I've sat now. Who wanted to sign him
06:51this offseason? Yeah. How much crap I got for that? Yeah, I
06:54know. I I shouldn't say I I've been wrong on running backs.
06:57I've been mostly correct on my take where you shouldn't pay
07:00for running backs and you shouldn't put in a ton of
07:02capital to that position but man is Saquon proving me the
07:05hell wrong. There's so many videos from the the damn
07:10Giants were on that offseason hard knocks when they actually
07:13decided to not re-sign Barkley and it's Joe Shane basically
07:16saying, hey, we're going to put all our eggs in the Daniel
07:19Jones basket instead of Saquon Barkley and what a nightmare
07:23that has become for them. He goes for 205 yards on the
07:26ground. He has the two touchdowns. I also saw remember
07:28that game earlier this season when Saquon broke all those
07:31other records and it was against the Rams in LA. He's
07:34scored four touchdowns over two games against the Rams. All
07:38four of them are 60 plus yards. I've never even heard of
07:41something like that. Ridiculous the way he just breaks games
07:44open like that. So, he is just, you know, a dog but I do want
07:48to go to the trenches with this one because you mentioned that
07:51in the bills in the the bills in the Ravens game and Jordan
07:55Davis wreaks havoc in this game. Jared Verse as well for
07:58the Rams, a rookie first rounder. He's been awesome. So,
08:02just your thoughts on how this relates to the Patriots and
08:05kind of what they have to do up front on both sides of the
08:07football to kind of turn this thing around for themselves.
08:10One with the whole Saquon conversation. I understand that
08:13the Giants look really bad because of the prioritization
08:17of putting Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley but also if
08:20we're being very honest, Saquon Barkley was not coming close
08:23to setting any records behind the Giants offensive line. No,
08:25you're right and also they had Tyrone Tracy who was on the
08:28all-rookie team. Like, obviously, it looks bad when
08:31you just kind of look at it from a thousand-foot view but
08:34when you really think about it, it's like, alright, no, the
08:36Giants made the right choice, right? They are not a Super
08:39Bowl team. They were not a Saquon Barkley away from going
08:42to a Super Bowl but when you're the Eagles and you have a
08:45ridiculous offensive line with some of the biggest human
08:48beings in the sport that combined with Saquon Barkley
08:51reminds me of the year where the Rams won the Super Bowl
08:54where it's not just Sean McVay. It's not just Matthew
08:56Stafford. It's not just Cooper Cup. It's the fact that you
08:59have all those guys together at the same time where it's just
09:03it's the perfect storm and that's where all these records
09:05just start getting shattered. You have Saquon popping off. So,
09:08again, the trenches but then on the defensive side of the ball
09:11for the Eagles, one of the biggest reasons that the Rams
09:14couldn't put a drive together was Jalen Carter. Now, there
09:16was the one play where it looked like the center may have
09:18thought he had help and then Carter beat him pretty swiftly
09:21on his sack but even on the throw that Matthew Stafford
09:24missed on fourth down, Jalen Carter won quickly and was
09:26right in his face. So, those were again, the biggest
09:29takeaways for me is when the games get tough and there are
09:31the inclement weather conditions, especially, you
09:34know, Boxborough, weather's probably going to get ugly if
09:37you're playing any kind of playoff football there but
09:39especially as the season goes on and you saw in these bad
09:42weather games, again, those teams that could really run the
09:45ball with consistency and the defensive lines that were like
09:48you're not going to run rough shot over us. Those are the
09:50ones that really pulled it out and even saw for the Rams like
09:53when did they start playing worse? Once the Rams went up
09:56tempo and defensive line got tired. No, Braden Fisk
09:59obviously had an impact and like Jared Burst was dominating
10:02that game. So, just that's and that's every playoffs, right?
10:06Every playoffs, you kind of come to the same conclusion
10:08where oh yeah, defense still matters. The run game still
10:11matters. The trenches still matter. As much as we love to
10:13talk about these quarterbacks, it's not just these guys
10:16winning the games on their own. These are team efforts where
10:19you're seeing like the Bills were playing bully ball like
10:22Matt Collins. He may be kind of weird and you know, he he's
10:25not exactly my taste but that dude has an edge to him and the
10:29way he plays like he drills Marlon Humphrey into the
10:32ground. I hope Marlon Humphrey's okay but like that
10:35kind of attitude is the kind of thing that has not been
10:37present for the Patriots since Josh McDaniels and you know,
10:40I'm sure we're going to talk about that later. So, I just
10:43want to get back to being that kind of team as the Patriots. I
10:45want to get back to being the kind of team that other
10:48opponents don't want to play because they know it's going to
10:50be a very long afternoon evening whenever you're
10:53playing but yeah, it's just it's really cool seeing
10:56another team just be able to manhandle somebody else and I
10:59hope the Patriots become that team or begin to become that
11:02kind of team this offseason. You mentioned the toughness of
11:05Matt Collins. Did you see how he how he I can't talk. Did you
11:09see how he showed up to the game today with? Yeah. No shoes
11:14which he always does. He says it keeps him grounded and he
11:17says apparently he he explains that he doesn't wear shoes
11:21because it's like if you were to wear mittens all the time on
11:24your hands like he says mittens are just a tool for your hands
11:27and that they're supposed to be out. It helps the dexterity
11:29which whatever works for you, whatever works for him but also
11:33shows up like like he's going to Miami with no shirt on
11:37bathing suit. Good for him. He gets his attention. He's a
11:41tough football player and hey, you never know. Maybe the
11:43Patriots bring in a guy like that sometime soon. On Rams
11:47Eagles as well. We do have some other Patriots centric news
11:51regarding some coaches that now with the Rams losing could end
11:55up here in Foxborough. We're going to get to all of those

13:47that code CLNS. You get $50 instantly after you play your
13:52first $5 lineup. So, talking about this Eagles Rams game
13:58that just went down in Philly today, the Rams are now out of
14:01the playoffs and that means their assistant coaches are
14:04essentially now poachable and there are a lot of Patriots
14:08adjacent coaches on the LA Rams right now. First and foremost,
14:12it's John Stryker, Stretch as they call him. The old director
14:17of game management role under Mike Vrabel with Tennessee. It
14:21was reported by Mike Reese this morning that he essentially is
14:24expected to be following Vrabel out east here and now that this
14:29game is over, he is able to officially be hired and join
14:33the staff. A couple other ones which should or will
14:36essentially we would think be wrapped into the offensive
14:38coordinator discussion. Nick Kaley and Mike LaFleur and
14:41maybe Dave Ragone who is their quarterbacks coach and
14:45somebody else. I think it was Evan on Twitter today threw in
14:48Jerry Szaplinski as well who is on the Rams staff. May not be in
14:53the offensive coordinator realm but maybe another assistant
14:56that could come over. He's worked with Josh McDaniels
14:58before and also worked with Nick Kaley in New England. So
15:02this is all going to happen even faster than we thought
15:05because if the Rams were still in the playoffs, they would
15:07have had to wait a little bit longer to fill out their
15:09offensive staff but looks like if they want to, they can start
15:12interviewing and bringing these guys in. Of the names I just
15:15mentioned, who do you like? What do you like about them? I
15:18know we did the OCs a little bit the other day but what do
15:21you expect out of these guys now that LA is done with their
15:24postseason? I mean, Stretch obviously is the one that makes
15:26the most sense. He's basically Mike Vrabel's Ernie Adams or
15:29his Evan Rothstein. So, yeah, he's probably going to be like
15:35director of game management, something like that. He's going
15:36to have a role where he's going to have a lot of say in
15:39decision-making. He's going to be on the sideline and I think
15:41maybe some administrative stuff as well. I know he was like the
15:43director of football operations, I think towards the
15:46end of his time in Tennessee. Honestly, the name that sticks
15:49out the most to me is Dave Ragone. Now, obviously, we know
15:52Nick Kaley. The Patriots have already shown interest in him.
15:54He's from the Patriots system. Went over to the Rams. Not only
15:57is he very trusted by Sean McVay. Obviously, got a bump in
16:01title. He's also their pass game coordinator on top of being
16:03their tight ends coach. Also, a tight ends coach is a pretty
16:06unique position because John McVay was a tight ends coach
16:09when he was in Washington. Because you're dealing with the
16:12run game and the pass game pretty equally, you have a
16:14different perspective and Nick Kaley actually integrated some
16:17of the Patriots principles like their one-word terminology where
16:20they use tempo and things like that. Integrated that into the
16:23LA offense. So, Nick Kaley's an obvious candidate. Mike
16:25LaFleur as the offensive coordinator for the Rams.
16:28Another obvious candidate. You have Matt LaFleur who obviously
16:31was the offense coordinator for Tennessee. That little
16:34connection there but neither Nick Kaley nor Mike LaFleur
16:39has called plays before or and they both neither one of them
16:43has an extensive experience or background working with
16:45quarterbacks. Dave Ragone has been a pass game coordinator.
16:48He's been an offensive coordinator. He actually was
16:50the offensive coordinator for Arthur Smith when he was the
16:53head coach in Atlanta. So, ding ding. Obviously, Arthur
16:55Smith is some, I keep saying obviously, my bad. Oh my god. I
16:58just called myself. It's driving me crazy. Hey, we got
17:00the, I just realized I put the wrong Eagles defensive lineman
17:04on the the lower third earlier. I said Jordan Davis and it was
17:07Jalen Carter who went off. So, I probably said his name wrong.
17:10We're not made for the late night shift here on CRS. There
17:13we go but Taylor had it right. Jalen Carter have a day. There
17:16is no greater advantage to on a defense than having a game
17:19record defensive tackle. We did mean Jalen Carter. I
17:22apologize to everyone but yeah, that is kind of what it looks
17:25like at least on the the coaching staff side for the
17:29Patriots. So, expect John Stryker to be here within the
17:32coming. Realistically, I would say days. Definitely weeks but
17:37I could see him getting here as soon as possible. Whether he
17:40needs a title change or not, I feel like Sean McVay will
17:43probably let him out. He's been in Tennessee with him for a
17:46long time. He came over this 1 year with Ray being fired out
17:50of Tennessee. Um and yeah, Michael Fleur, Nick Haley,
17:52Daver, Daver going all names to watch out for now that the
17:56Rams are out of the postseason. So, let's go to Saturday,
18:00Taylor. Lions versus Commanders. Holy **** What a
18:05football game that was. Jaden Daniels, Washington, 4531. Uh a
18:11couple things to hit on but I want to give it over to you
18:15first and foremost to talk about Jaden Daniels because you
18:18love Jaden Daniels. You mentioned Jaden Daniels is your
18:21favorite football player right now. I don't want to, I don't
18:24even have to say why or ask why uh because I know why he's he's
18:29my god dude. A lot of people came at you and were like, what
18:32about Drake May? What about Drake May? You're supposed to
18:34be team Drake May. What is it about Jaden Daniels that has
18:37you so enamored especially with how he beat the one-seeded
18:40fifteen and two Detroit Lions last night. That's what I'm
18:43saying. Like, yeah, we're all excited about Drake May but
18:45Jaden Daniels is getting it done. Right and when you see a
18:50rookie quarterback, the fact that when he's on the field,
18:53you genuinely think that the commanders can come back from
18:55anything is absurd and just the ice in his veins. The man is
19:00fearless. He's tough. He's accurate. He's intelligent. You
19:03see constantly like the the deep throw that he made. I said
19:06it was a not safe throw. Somebody was like, I thought it
19:08was going to be more impressive. I'm like, what do
19:10you need? He slid over just enough to even get the ball
19:14off. Let it go as he was getting hit and dropped it in
19:16the bucket to beat the safety and the trailing corner. Jaden
19:19Daniels is just fantastic. I thought he was going to be a
19:22good player. I did not think he was going to be this good,
19:24this fast. Um if we want to talk about what the Patriots
19:28can do to kind of get closer to that, we touched on it. I
19:30know um last week, we could do that again but yeah, I mean,
19:34this is just, it's awesome to watch. He's just so much fun.
19:37He plays the game the right way and it's not like he's
19:40dealing with this like, it's not like he's surrounded by
19:43all-stars either. Right. Like, yeah, the commander said a lot
19:46of things to help him out especially coaches and things
19:48like that but still, he's doing a lot of this on his own and
19:51there's reliable pass catchers like people deserve their
19:54credit but I mean, Jaden Daniels is playing at a level
19:56that I did not expect to see from this quickly and it's it
19:59is a delight to watch and I think you know, you mentioned
20:02that you didn't expect it to happen this, you know, this
20:05quickly for him but we did expect him to be ahead of Drake
20:08May. You know, he had played a lot more football in college.
20:10We thought that he would adjust faster but this is incredible
20:14what he's doing. He does not look like a rookie at all. He
20:16really hasn't looked like a rookie much of this season at
20:20all. He has just been lights out if not lights out consistent
20:23for most of the season with the commanders and obviously
20:26shows it upsetting the one-seeded Detroit Lions. I do
20:29want to talk about Terrell Williams but first, I want to
20:32get to Ben Johnson really quick because I like Ben Johnson. I
20:38think ultimately, it would have been a good hire. I do. I
20:42think Vrabel was the better hire and we went over this a
20:44lot over the last couple of weeks here on pads. There
20:47wasn't going to be a bad hire most likely, right? The reverse
20:51pass from Jameson Williams pissed me off. That was a bad
20:56call. I called myself out for that one. That was a really bad
20:59call in that situation. Horrible. Way, way, way too
21:02much thinking. I don't even want to say he's getting too
21:05cute because I don't think that's the definition. I don't
21:07like when people say too cute because sometimes I I think
21:10there's a level of detail when it comes to scouting and making
21:13those kinds of plays that people don't realize where it
21:15may seem crazy to you but usually, they saw something
21:18that they thought that would work in that situation. You
21:21can't put the ball in a wide receiver's hands especially
21:23when the guy has a brain fart like that like maybe he didn't
21:26do it in practice but I still like I really try to give
21:29offensive coordinators a lot of benefit of the doubt because I
21:31think that they're over criticized and every time a
21:34play goes poorly, oh, it's a dumb call and I disagree with
21:36that. That was when it happened. I was like, Ben, it
21:39was like the the um where it's on Thanksgiving. It's literally
21:43the definition of you're being cute. Just like cut the
21:45**** Yes. Play football like you need to come back. You are
21:48not in the spot to be doing all this spooky stuff. There are
21:52times and places for **** like that and even Thanksgiving, as
21:55much as that was too cute, it wasn't the postseason down ten
21:59with the game on the line and I've saw a lot of people when I
22:02was **** on Ben Johnson for the play call in my comments
22:04comparing it to well, Josh McDaniels called a double pass
22:07for Julian Edelman to Danny Amidola down ten in the
22:10playoffs. So much different circumstances. Yeah. I don't
22:13care that Julian Edelman hadn't thrown a pass from years that
22:16and I'm sure as well that they practice this with Jameson
22:18Williams but Julian Edelman has played quarterback before. He
22:21is a very very cerebral player. I don't think Julian Edelman
22:26would ever have thrown the football that Jameson Williams.
22:29If Jameson Williams went to pass and didn't throw it, the
22:33call is okay because you trust Jameson Williams in that spot
22:36to not know and to not have that battered in his head that
22:39you can't you can't make a mistake here has to do with the
22:44OC and with the play caller. That's on Ben Johnson. It's not
22:46the same as Josh McDaniels. I'm sorry. It's just not and you
22:49saw him try to stop it. You could see the moment where he
22:51was like, should I throw this? I know and he's like, you can
22:54literally see like, oh, don't like he knew better. He didn't
22:58throw it. He took a sack but it was like, alright, man, at
23:00least you didn't pull the trigger when we all knew you
23:03wanted to throw that thing like Jameson. It's he he let the he
23:07let the intrusive thoughts win and it caused his team play. It
23:11didn't cost them. Obviously, they were already in a hole but
23:13that was just it just felt like the nail in the coffin and
23:15ultimately it was that was the go ahead. One other thing I
23:18want to talk about in the game. I don't think we're going to
23:20talk about it because Chiefs Texans didn't have a ton has to
23:22do with the Patriots. Were you frustrated by them not going
23:25forward on fourth down the Texans and punting it to the
23:28Chiefs because I was like you pump this away. You're never
23:32getting this ball back and I understood the situation. The
23:35offensive line was bad but I'm just like, dude, they're rolling
23:38on you right now. I just I thought that was such a bad
23:41decision because four minutes left against the Chiefs. It
23:44just feels like one of those situations where it's like
23:46people forget who they're playing and it's like, no, you
23:48need to be playing to win. If you lose by playing to win,
23:51fine but like I can't stand when people voluntarily get
23:54Patrick Mahomes the ball with less than like five minutes to
23:57go. No, I agree with my best when it's again, you're right.
24:00You need to you need to know the situation. You need to know
24:03where you're playing. You need to know who's on the other
24:05sideline. You need to know again, the circumstances that
24:09are on the line and yeah, in that situation, like you can't
24:12do stuff like that because you know that he's just going to go
24:14bleed that clock melted out and the game is over. So yeah, I
24:18didn't like it. There were some like in looking back in this
24:20game, Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury could not stop going
24:23forward on fourth down at one point in the game. Now,
24:26granted, they they got it and they won the football game. So
24:29all as well, but there were times where I was like, man,
24:31just take the damn points like you're okay right now like but
24:34they trusted it and it worked so good on them. I do want to
24:38wrap up Lions commanders with some Terrell Williams talk but
24:43quick word from our friends over at game time. Then we'll
24:45talk about Terrell Williams and we will quickly do Chiefs
24:47versus Texans before we get out of here on this rapid fire
24:50Patriots postgame. We'll be right back. This episode is
24:53also powered by game time. The best place to get tickets to

25:32code CLNS for $20 off. Download game time today. Last minute
25:37tickets, lowest price guaranteed. And what time is it
25:40Taylor? Game time. I'm so mad that's not in the read anymore.
25:44But before we do, before we keep going on this quick game
25:47time story, I did write a Sports Illustrated story the
25:51other day about Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils. I
25:55don't know how tied in you are to college basketball, but
25:59Cooper Flagg, Newport, Maine native, number one player in
26:03the country. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I heard about him on games with
26:05names. Yeah. Yeah. So goes to Duke, best player in the
26:09country, comes home essentially to Boston College this weekend.
26:12So I write a story about the ticket prices because he's from
26:15New England, whatever, and I use the game time app. There
26:18were tickets at Boston College basketball for $2,000. What?
26:24At BC. Why? Because he was coming home. So it was his
26:29homecoming game. So there were like floor seats for $2,000 to
26:32a Boston College basketball game. The get in price on game
26:35time was $140, which very high for a BC basketball game. But
26:40when Duke comes to town, they go up a little. Cooper Flagg
26:43made them skyrocket to the get in price being $140. Reason I
26:46also say that, though, is if you're in the area, college
26:51basketball games are really fun to go to, even if it's like BC
26:54and a local ACC team. And most of the time, the get in price
26:58on game time, all in tickets, is just $1 on the game time app
27:02for Boston College. So if you're bored on a Tuesday,
27:04Thursday, want to head over to the Conte Forum over in
27:09Chestnut Hill, go do it. $1, not $140, not $2,000 because
27:12Cooper Flagg does not come back. But you can get a decent
27:15ticket over there on the game time app. So head over there,
27:18use that code CLNS, you can get $20 off your first purchase.
27:22All right, let's talk about Terrell Williams, who Mike
27:25Reese also mentioned would be a prime candidate for the Patriots
27:30defensive coordinator job. You mentioned him earlier this week
27:33as well on our Patriots Daily Show where we talked about the
27:35coaching staff. So just I guess I'll hand it over to you for
27:39another thought on defensive staff Terrell Williams. Now the
27:42fact that the Lions are out, they can officially make a move
27:45and hire him. And it would be a promotion from defensive line
27:48coach. So what do you make? And we're not talking about
27:52Jaden Daniels anymore, but appreciate you, Amit. I guess
27:56we'll keep it up. Jaden Daniels. It's fine. Terrell
28:00Williams, what do you got? Should he be the Patriots next
28:02season? I'm always hesitant for defensive coordinators who
28:08don't have experience with the secondary or at least coaching
28:11several different positions where they understand how each
28:14of those things works. That said, when you listen to Terrell
28:16Williams, it's like, oh yeah, no, this is a leader of men.
28:19It's very obvious why he was named assistant head coach
28:22under Mike Vrabel in their final year together in Tennessee.
28:25Really well-respected defensive line coach. Obviously, those
28:28Titans defensive lines were just churning out really
28:30productive players. You had Terrell Casey. You have, oh my
28:35gosh, Jeffrey Simmons. You have Harold Landry. He coached them
28:38to good seasons. Aiden Hutchinson, shot out of a cannon.
28:41His first season with Terrell Williams this season, obviously
28:44then gets hurt, but still that defensive line for the Lions
28:48was still pretty formidable. So, as long as Terrell Williams
28:52had, I think, a pass game coordinator, I would feel much
28:54more comfortable with it. If he can focus on what he does best,
28:57the trenches, the pass rush, run defense, and all that, cool, but
29:01in terms of just leadership, I think he'd be a great get for
29:04the Patriots. Kind of having that head coach type figure on,
29:08like, if you hire Josh McDaniels, you got it for the
29:10offense. On defense, he seems like he could be that kind of
29:13guy and, again, a leader of men sort of figure. Totally. In the
29:17chat, went to a UMass basketball game. It was great. Thanks for
29:20the interactions in the chat. Thank you for interacting,
29:27humans. Dude, I'm tired. It's okay, though. Oh, this is fun.
29:34This is, this is what I, when we talk about, like, doing watch
29:37parties on the pod or whatever, this is the kind of stuff I like
29:40where it's not, you know, we've talked about it, but it's not
29:42like, hey, I'm Mike. He's Taylor. Let's talk. It's like,
29:44you know, let's just, I like that. Beep, boop, boop, boop,
29:48beep. It's like Mr. Krabs when he's the robot. But if I say,
29:53obviously, again, I'm gonna throw myself off my back. Town
29:55Spa, Town Spa, meet and greet. We should do, imagine Pat's
29:59Daily live at Town Spa. That'd be pretty sick. That wouldn't
30:02be bad. Set that up on it. We could do, we should do, like,
30:05and we talked about this. I'm not gonna get into details on
30:07the live show, but doing some live shows, I don't know if it
30:10will ever actually happen, but we're gonna try it. So, spam us,
30:15email us, do whatever. If you want live Patriots Daily
30:18somewhere, whether it's at a bar, a pizza shop, we'll try
30:20and make it happen if that's something you guys would all
30:23like. Tiger Town, he says we're rising stars. We appreciate
30:25that. That's a little. Thank you, Tiger. A little too kind.
30:28In the back end chat, our producer does say live shows
30:31are possible somewhere, so keep that on the radar, and we will
30:35see what happens. But, long story short, Tarell Williams,
30:38no longer in the postseason, so he could end up alongside Mike
30:42Rabel once again, sooner rather than later. One final game,
30:47Taylor, to wrap up the weekend. It was the first one, and it's
30:51the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Houston Texans.
30:55They keep getting away with it, this GD team.
30:59A lot of referee talk, a nonsense flop from Patrick Mahomes,
31:05which I couldn't stand. He's got a chill, dude. He's making
31:08himself look really. I used to like him. I used to like
31:10Patrick Mahomes a lot. I thought he was one of the good
31:12ones. Well, that's not a phrase I should use for a Black man.
31:15Anyway, scratch that, but the past two or three years, he's
31:21been doing some real such shit, and I'm like, dude, you're a
31:24great player. You don't need to be putting yourself in
31:26positions where you look like LeBron. No football player
31:32wants to look like LeBron, LeFlop. Please, man. I can't
31:36stand it. I really like Mahomes, but he's got to cut that stuff
31:40out. I agree, and there was a play tonight, right, where
31:42Lamar goes running towards the sideline and kind of stops for
31:45a second and gets plastered out of bounds, and there's no call,
31:48and it's like, well, why? It should be the same no matter
31:51what, and I know that's never going to happen, but even as
31:55far as star level and getting star treatment, right?
31:57Patrick Mahomes gets it. Lamar Jackson should, too, or don't
32:00call it for either one. At least call it across the board.
32:03Josh Allen. Oh, my God. Again, I like Josh. He'll do that,
32:07too, though. He'll look for flags. He'll kind of do some of
32:09the stuff. Lamar never does that. You never see Lamar do
32:14anything like that. Josh and Pat, they do, and I don't love
32:17it. It's like, let your place be for itself. You don't need
32:20to be getting these petty... Like, even Brady did that
32:21sometimes, but he wasn't, like, flopping. Brady was, like,
32:25looking around, being like, he hit me, because you got that
32:27old man, like, yells at clouds. Totally. Never flopping and not,
32:31like, I think to this extent that we've been seeing. No,
32:33that's... You're right, and there's a difference between
32:36getting hit late and bitching to the ref and making yourself
32:41look like you just got hit and then looking and bitching to
32:44the ref. Like, come on, and again, you said it perfectly.
32:47He's too good for this. Like, he's... We'll talk about it,
32:50and I'll throw up the L3 here, and we can kind of, you know,
32:53use this to close out the show. As he continues to chase
32:56Brady and continues, and this team continues to go on and be
33:00this next dynasty, right? You know, could potentially win
33:03three in a row. Like, yeah, there's a lot of baggage
33:06attached to the Brady Patriots, and there's the cheating
33:08nonsense and all that, but, like, if you go out there and
33:10become, like you said, LeFlop, LeBron James, who just, like,
33:14even the clip of Mahomes in the regular season complaining to
33:19Josh Allen in his ear about, like, the non-call, it's like...
33:22That's embarrassing. That was embarrassing.
33:23It was, and I like Pat, and he's... I am a... As someone who
33:30is a fan as well of the Patriots, there's a lot of
33:33people that, like, gatekeep the, you know, their greatness,
33:35and they don't want the Chiefs to, you know, continue on
33:38because they want them... Like, I get that as being a fan.
33:40I'm not like that because I enjoy watching greatness. I
33:43love to see guys continue to get better and set records,
33:47like Mahomes to win three and Brady didn't. Like, I think
33:49that's pretty cool, and it shows that, you know, it can be
33:52done again. So, I root for it, and I think that he's great,
33:57and I've been a fan of Mahomes, but there's this... There's a
33:59lot of nonsense here that I just... I don't like, but at the
34:03end of the day, right now, I still think Patrick Mahomes is
34:06already the second greatest quarterback of all time behind
34:09Tom Brady. I think that's sort of becoming abundantly clear.
34:14Where are you on this chase of the Patriots dynasty and where
34:19the Chiefs are, what they can become? I know you grew up a
34:24little bit of a Patriots fan. Does it bother you to see that
34:28they could win three? The Patriots never did it. Like,
34:31where do you sit on all of this nonsense? I know that it's
34:33the drama that you don't love. Yeah, I hate this. I don't like
34:36these comparisons. Like, records are literally made to
34:40be broken. I do not care if another team... If another team
34:44is able to have the success that the Patriots and Bill
34:46Belichick and Tom Brady had, especially because I think a
34:49key to their greatness was longevity. It wasn't just one
34:54dynasty. It was the fact they had two separate ones, and even
34:56in the middle, they weren't bad. They just weren't living up
34:59to their own standards, but they're still going to the
35:01playoffs. There's still a team that everybody knows you have
35:03to prepare for, and everybody knows you have to play your
35:05best against. And they were still going to the Super Bowl
35:08if they weren't winning. So, I don't like them being discussed
35:12the same way. I think if they get three, and then Mahomes
35:16starts winning like four and five within the same short
35:19time span, that's where you start talking about, he's just
35:21in a different realm, where we've never even seen a
35:24quarterback who's able to have that much success in a
35:27condensed time frame, and Brady would be the only one who was
35:30close. But the fact that Brady did it when he was young
35:32basically had three or four Hall of Fame caliber careers.
35:38Right. Mahomes is awesome, and I think it's easy to separate
35:41him from almost anybody else at this point. I think if you
35:45want him in Montana, we should be having that conversation
35:47the same way we did with Brady. Or with Brady, it wasn't until
35:50he got his fifth ring that people really respected the
35:52fact that he was different, and he was in his own category. I
35:56think Mahomes in Montana, that's where we should be. But
36:00Brady, that's 20 years of dominance. Yeah, I know. We
36:03have no idea what's going to happen with Mahomes, and I wish
36:06him sustained success. He does everything the right way,
36:09except for these bullshits. Except for the bullshit now.
36:11Yeah, but he puts the work in, like that quarterback
36:13documentary, I was like, oh my god. You really don't know how
36:17much work these guys put in until you see Patrick Mahomes
36:20trying to get his body ready, so he doesn't tear his ACL and
36:24just wants to get it flexible enough that his body's used to
36:26the trauma. That's awesome. So I kind of went off on a tangent
36:29there, but yeah, I don't care if they supplant the
36:32Patriots. I think that's awesome because it's incredible
36:34the Patriots did it. It's going to be more incredible that
36:37another team did it in the salary cap era, but I just
36:39think they're very different conversations because Brady and
36:42Belichick did it in two different, not eras
36:45necessarily, but two different chunks of time, and were still
36:48successful even when they weren't winning the Super Bowls.
36:50Yeah, no, that's a fair point. I agree with you, and I think
36:53that to fix my stance on it, it's Brady and it's Mahomes
36:58where I don't think he's necessarily approaching, but I
37:02do think Mahomes is the clear number two, and I think that
37:04kind of happened last year. A third Super Bowl here would
37:07obviously make that happen even more. You got to be in the
37:11league at least 10 years for me to even start talking about
37:15you being like, Tom, I don't care about how many rings he
37:19has. Yeah, that's fair. We do have some sound from
37:22Lamar Jackson postgame. He was kind of yelling about the
37:26turnovers and not necessarily Mark Andrews' turnovers, but
37:30his own. Ahmet, do you have that pulled up? What a good
37:33leader. Oh, just read it. Never mind. Lamar Jackson, a
37:37frustrated Lamar Jackson, referred to his own turnovers
37:40when asked about Mark Andrews. Tonight, the turnovers, we
37:42can't have that bleep. That's why we lost the game. Hold on
37:47to the bleeping ball. Sorry for my language. So, I like that he
37:52takes accountability because he's talking about himself. I
37:54don't think he's talking about Mark Andrews. Lamar's awesome
37:57in that. I think he's grown into like a consummate
38:02professional as far as, you know, the way he speaks with
38:05the media, the way he acts, the way he. He's always been
38:09fantastic with the media. No, he has been and he gets it.
38:12He's super smart as far as like on field and off field. I just
38:16want him to get over the hump now. Like, I want to see it
38:19even more and I don't think tonight was, I guess it was a
38:22little bit of his fault because he had the two turnovers. He
38:24said it himself. You gotta hold on to the ball but I don't
38:27know. I just, I, I, I put everything at the end though.
38:30It's just so disappointing. Right? Cuz you go to a guy like
38:32Mark Andrews who no one wants to see Mark Andrews of all
38:35people, you know, drop or have the fumble then drop a pass
38:39like the way they went out just and people kept saying it. I
38:41said it wouldn't happen like it was just sickening man. It's
38:44like you don't wanna see a game between Lamar Jackson and Josh
38:46Allen and because of a fumble and a drop. Not exactly because
38:51of that but like I'm like I get goosebumps now man. It sucks. I
38:54just want, I want better for Lamar. He's been playing his
38:56butt off and yes, he turned the ball over but like that's
38:59early on in the game. Late, he tried to put the team on his
39:02back and then ultimately couldn't. It's just, oh god. I
39:05every time I talk about it, I feel, I just feel nauseous.
39:08Yeah, it's tough. It's tough but that's where we are. That's
39:11where the postseason is. We now have the uh an NFC East battle
39:16for the NFC Championship between the Washington
39:18Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles. That one
39:21will kick on. Yeah, the NFC beast. Seriously. Uh kicks off
39:26at 3 PM next Sunday and then Bill's Chiefs gonna be a great
39:30one next Sunday 630 from Arrowhead. Uh we'll do
39:34something similar next week here on the channel. Uh a quick
39:37recap of both of those games leading in to the Super Bowl.
39:41So, make sure you keep it here on Patriots Press Pass. As
39:44always, rate, review, and subscribe. Uh subscribe to all
39:47of our feeds. Wherever you get your podcast as well. Pat's

39:53audio on those feeds and myself myself and Taylor will be back
39:58all week on Patriots Daily. We have a lot of fun content
40:01lined up starting again this offseason. We got an interview
40:04this weekend or this week rather on Tuesday. Brown's
40:06reporter from ESPN. We'll tease it now. Daniel uh I think
40:11that's how you say his name. Uh the ESPN Cleveland Browns
40:15reporter. Uh he will be on to talk about Mike Vrabel's um
40:20Mike Vrabel's time in Cleveland. Uh we'll have our
40:22mailbag as usual on Wednesday and then uh Taylor is headed to
40:26the Senior Bowl this coming weekend. So, we will have a
40:30senior bowl preview down the stretch and we will have an
40:32abundance of content down there in Mobile. So, again, Taylor's
40:36gonna be there. I'll be here. We'll have some sort of uh some
40:39show, some recaps, things going on uh while they're down there
40:43all of the prospects. So, again, keep it here for all of
40:45that. It's gonna be a fun week. Gonna be a fun offseason as the
40:48Patriots continue on. Uh so until then, take care of
40:51yourselves. Take care of each other. Have a good night. Get
40:54some rest. It's late. Get into the week and get ready for some
40:57more Patriots content. Take care of yourselves. Take care of
