00:00Thank you Madam Deputy Speaker. We are a proud cathedral city. Everyone in Peterborough has
00:06a story to tell about our cathedral, whether it's attending a carol service, going to a
00:11graduation, a community event, or even remembering the Foreign Secretary singing as a chorister
00:17when he was a schoolboy. For over 900 years our cathedral has been there for us and now
00:22in the words of the very Reverend Chris Dollaston, our Dean, we need to be there for the cathedral
00:26because it has a funding crisis. Can I ask the Leader of the House if she will join me
00:31in wishing well the cathedral in its appeal and if she will ensure that we have time in
00:36this House to debate these wonderful, wonderful assets, which are not just local of importance
00:41but national assets to our heritage.
00:43Leader of the House.
00:45Well the Honourable Gentleman is a really fantastic champion for his constituency of
00:50Peterborough and I strongly welcome his contribution today and fully support what he says about
00:57both Peterborough Cathedral but also the cathedrals of this country and what a national asset
01:03they are. He will be aware the Government has a range of support programmes for places
01:08of worship in place, such as the Listed Places of Worship scheme and the Church's Conservation
01:15Trust and there is a debate actually in Westminster Hall on the Listed Places of Worship scheme
01:21next week which he may want to participate in but can I join him finally in strongly
01:27supporting the campaign for Peterborough Cathedral to raise the funds it needs.
