00:42In the price monitoring of the Department of Agriculture,

00:45the price of rice in the markets varies from 37 to 65 pesos per kilo.

00:51The National Price Coordinating Council said

00:54that the rising price of rice is too high.

00:58In spite of lowering its price in the legal market

01:01and reducing the price of imported rice.

01:04That's why the MPCC recommended to the Department of Agriculture

01:09to declare a food security emergency.

01:13If that happens, the National Food Authority will allow

01:16to sell cheap rice to local governments

01:20that can be used as aid or sold to the public.

01:23The NFA will give rice to LGUs for P36

01:28that can be sold for P38 per kilo.

01:31This will greatly influence the price of rice in the markets

01:35and will lower the price of rice.

01:37P3 to P5 is really possible, in my opinion.

01:41Moreover, the world prices are also going down now.

01:43There are 300,000 tons in the NFA warehouses now.

01:48If it is unloaded to the public, to the consumer,

01:53it should help also lower the price of rice in general

01:59because it's an additional supply to the market.

02:01In accordance with the Rice Tarification Law,

02:04the power is given by the Department of Agriculture

02:08to declare a food security emergency.

02:11But Tiu Laurel will let President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. know the decision first.

02:17We have solid data that shows that this is justified.

02:23The price of P62 should be P58.

02:29But after two weeks from now, it should be P55

02:33because the world market prices are going down.

02:35This action will also help to expand the warehouse of the NFA

02:40and improve the supply of rice to the farmers

02:44that the agency will buy.

02:46There are 700,000 bags of rice in the NFA.

02:49In the next month, it will be considered as non-regular or stock.

02:54This means that more than two months have passed

02:57and it needs to be taken out.

02:59The warehouses are really full.

03:12In the first week of February, the food security emergency will be implemented.

03:18The sale of NFA rice to the LGUs in Metro Manila will be done first.

03:25the D.A. and the Department of Trade and Industry will monitor the price of rice.

03:30Effective on Monday, January 20,

03:33the maximum suggested retail price of P58 per kilo of imported rice will be implemented.

03:40Just a while ago, the two agencies inspected the price of rice in their markets.
