Peterborough 4 Walsall 2 - George Bennett analysis
Transcript
00:00Good evening Sadler's fans on Pipside at London Road where Walsall have just fallen to a 4-2
00:07defeat against League One side Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy Round of 16. So their
00:16adventure in this competition is officially over and Matt Sadler made eight changes from
00:23the club record-breaking 5-1 victory over Tramlia Rovers at Bescott on Saturday with
00:30only David Akagbewe, Oshin McKenzie and Taylor Allen retaining their places and
00:37Peterborough who made five changes from their last game
00:41took the lead inside seven minutes when Gustav Lindgren found himself
00:47free on the edge of the box and tucked his finish past Sam Hornby who got two gloves to the ball
00:56but was unable to stop it from nestling into the far corner. David Akagbewe was then adjudged to
01:03have fouled to offender Fernandes inside the box and Motherseal stepped up to the spot to double
01:10Peterborough's advantage but Danny Johnson halved the deficit on the half hour mark. Albert Adoma
01:17chased a ball into the channel from Charlie Lakin and squared for Johnson slightly behind him but
01:23managed to find his feet and rifled the ball into the top corner but within 90 seconds Peterborough
01:31had restored their two goal lead with Lindgren on his first start for the club scoring his second
01:38of the evening. Walsall in that second half flew out of the traps a much improved performance after
01:46what was a poor first half display. Rico Brown crashed a header against the post. Charlie Lakin
01:54forced the Peterborough goalkeeper into a number of impressive stops. Danny Johnson also at the end
02:01of that first half actually had a great opportunity which he struck straight at the Peterborough
02:05goalkeeper. He then skewed one wide at the start of the second half but Peterborough eventually
02:14found the fourth despite the fact that Walsall were the strongest side really in that second
02:20half but Motherseal bagged his brace with 15 minutes left on the clock and that kind of sealed
02:27the deal really then for Peterborough but Walsall still had chances. Lakin forced another couple of saves
02:32and the goalkeeper Josh Gordon came on after returning from four months on the sidelines with
02:38a hamstring injury forced a couple of good saves and then he got a late consolation to score his
02:44second of the campaign his first obviously since his return after just 18 minutes on the pitch
02:50closed down the Peterborough goalkeeper and the ball came off his back looped into the net but
02:55it merely proved consolation as Walsall lose 4-2 here this evening.
