00:00IĆd like to ask for two statements, please.
00:02IĆd like to ask for a first statement on the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in
00:06Germany.
00:07ThereĆs an awful lot of concern from farmers across the country about what this means for
00:10the United Kingdom and for farmers in Wales as well.
00:13So, IĆd welcome an update from the Welsh Government on what work youĆre doing with
00:16DEFRA around the control of foot-and-mouth and the stock coming into the United Kingdom.
00:21Jane Devons, in response to your first question, Welsh Ministers are aware of the single case
00:27of foot-and-mouth disease in Germany, and the chief veterinary officer and officials
00:32are working closely with the UK Government, the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary
00:38for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, clearly working closely with the UK Government to
00:43protect our livestock following this unfortunate news, but also to feed back that the UK Government
00:50is clearly in close contact with German authorities to understand the outbreak and respond appropriately.
00:56But, to reassure you, and from the Deputy First Minister I know to speak on his behalf,
01:02weĆve got robust continuancy plans in place to manage the risk of this disease, to protect
01:08farmers and our food security, which means using all measures to limit the risk of incursion
01:14and the spread of this devastating disease.
