00:00All right, good morning everybody, Mattson Bats, Daryl the Guru Johnson.
00:07How you feeling?
00:08I'm feeling good.
00:09Evan, thank you for holding it down yesterday.
00:10Apparently Evan did a seven-hour shift, four hours in the show, and three at DMV shopping.
00:18Ouch.
00:19You can't make appointments now, E. That's what old Norm would tell you.
00:23Now, how would you rather spend three hours?
00:25Watching the Warriors against the Raptors, or sitting at the DMV?
00:29I'm going to take the latter, sitting at the DMV.
00:31Yep.
00:32How you doing, buddy?
00:33I'm not doing well.
00:34Why not?
00:35Because yesterday the Cowboys fired their coach, I was on a high, and then I watched
00:38the Warrior game thinking, you know what?
00:40The Raptors are 1-16 in their last 17 games.
00:44This is a good place to start.
00:47Let's put some lipstick on the pig before the All-Star game, which is going to be here
00:51at Chase, and they lose to the lonely Raptors, man.
00:55And I don't like the right-on-the-table early, Stoney, brought to you by ADCO Pest Control.
01:00I am flummoxed, flabbergasted at what I'm hearing in regard to the stewards of this
01:07team, what they're saying after the game.
01:10Like I'm offended, and I'm a lifelong Warrior fan.
01:13I'm offended by what I'm hearing from Draymond Green, and I never thought I would say this,
01:19the chef.
01:20Well, I'll tell you what we're going to do.
01:23Okay.
01:24I missed you.
01:25This is exactly what you're talking about.
01:27This is Steph Curry after the Warriors' 104-101 loss last night.
01:31Desperate trades are desperate moves that deplete the future.
01:36There is a responsibility in keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes
01:43to where we leave this thing when we're done.
01:45It doesn't mean that you're not trying to get better.
01:47It doesn't mean that you're not active in any type of search to, you know, if you have
01:52an opportunity or a trade that makes sense, or even in the summer, a free agency makes
01:56sense.
01:57Like, you want to continue to get better.
01:58Nobody wants to be stale or be in a situation where you're passing up opportunities.
02:02But it doesn't mean that you're desperate, you know, just flinging assets all around
02:06the place just because you want to do something.
02:10All right.
02:11That was Steph Curry after last night's loss.
02:14They're 7-17 in their last 24.
02:17They're one game under .500.
02:19They're 11th in the Western Conference.
02:22And it feels like there's a unified message from Kerr, Curry, and Draymond Green that
02:28while they'd love to do something, they're all okay with doing everything but making
02:38a desperate move, Goo.
02:41And I just got to tell you how that resonates with me.
02:44It sounds like, Stony, you tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm a fan and I feel how I feel.
02:50There was a lot of white flag in that soundbite.
02:52And when Draymond Green, who was not available dealing with a disc issue in his back and
02:57missed his second game yesterday, but he's in his second year of his new deal, I get
03:03kind of a fat cat feel from those guys to where I was thinking, and it's my fault, that
03:09they're losing sleep.
03:10They're losing hair because they're watching their time with the Warriors come to an end.
03:15And I thought it was Malcolm X.
03:16By any means necessary, get us some help.
03:19And all of a sudden now, Curry and Draymond are playing GM, worried about the future.
03:25I've never heard a superstar, because I put them in the superstar category of, we're okay
03:31with where we're at right now.
03:34One game under 500, we don't want to mess up five or six years from now.
03:39And that's a revelation that I thought, words and verbiage that I would never hear coming
03:44from those guys.
03:45So unless something, and I'm hoping, Stiney, and have my fingers crossed, something's going
03:49on behind the scenes where maybe something will pop off like a deal.
03:54But all of a sudden, your guys, the leaders are saying, hey, punt.
04:00That's what I'm getting, punt.
04:02When I'm watching LeBron James basically give ultimatums to whatever front office to get
04:10me some help, I'm not getting that from Steph and Dray.
04:14And I'm just wondering, Stiney, why?
04:16And if I'm Joe Lacob hearing that, I guess that would constitute good news, but I thought
04:22Lacob's a killer.
04:24And we talked about Kawakami last week and his comments about the spicy conversation
04:28after losing to Sacramento.
04:30This doesn't go with that.
04:31So I don't know what's going on, but Stiney, I'm getting like, we're okay with where we're
04:36at.
04:37Yeah, I see it as though the two big players on this team, Draymond Green and Steph Curry,
04:45obviously along with Steve Kerr, I almost feel like in the last three to five days,
04:50they were briefed on something, either from Mike Dunleavy or Joe Lacob.
04:56But it sounds to me like word got to Curry and Draymond Green that the deals that they're
05:05looking at are simply going to cost them too much.
05:10And you were talking about Draymond Green, and this is what he said after the Warriors
05:15lost to Detroit a few nights ago, Draymond Green said, the beautiful part about being
05:20in the space that we're in, the beautiful part, the beautiful part about being in the
05:26space that we're in is Steve Kerr, Steph Curry, and myself all disagree with mortgaging of
05:33the future of this organization, saying that we're going for it right now.
05:39Bad teams do that.
05:41Bad organizations do that.
05:43And we're not either one.
05:45Well, right now you are a bad team.
05:48You're one game under 500.
05:50You're not even in the tournament, in the playing.
05:53So I would tell Draymond, you are a bad team, and you're a worse team when you're not available.
06:01I can't disagree with you.
06:02I can't disagree with you.
06:04As a fan, I'm offended by that verbiage, unless you're right, there was a briefing and something's
06:09about to pop off.
06:11He's sending the message, Draymond to me, Stiney and Steph, we're okay with what this
06:16is.
06:17And you can't even expect us to beat the Toronto Lowly Raptors.
06:21And we won't even, we can talk about the lack of execution down at the end of that game.
06:28But good God, it sounds like, and you know what?
06:31Just real quick here, Stiney.
06:33I told you this, and I'm on record as saying, Draymond Green is the junkyard dog.
06:38I can't say, I will not talk about what he's meant to this organization without saying
06:43he's destined for the Hall of Fame.
06:45But when the junkyard dog was telling me and us that, you know what, playing five is taxing.
06:52When you start hearing what you thought was reality, but just as a fighter, a proud fighter,
06:59he wouldn't say that aloud.
07:01Now all of a sudden, this is extra, this is the mustard on top of, Stiney, I feel like
07:08guys are telling me they're okay with where they're at in losing.
07:14The hell you care about the future that you're not going to be a part of?
07:18So you got paid and you're feeding us that?
07:24The beautiful, what's beautiful?
07:27All the beautiful parts, they won four titles, and this is where they're at right now.
07:32And you got a four-year extension.
07:35He did.
07:36So you're cool.
07:37Draymond got paid and he's cool with where they're at.
07:41Well I don't know.
07:42That's what I'm getting.
07:43Well I don't know that they're cool with where they're at, but I think they're realistic.
07:48They're 19 and 20.
07:50There's some players out there, none of whom I got to believe Mike Dunleavy thinks are
07:55going to make a dramatic difference.
07:58And so if you're going to go get a player who you don't think can make a dramatic difference,
08:03they've made a decision that they're not going to give up a lot of draft picks down the line.
08:08It sounds to me like that's the strategy right now.
08:13Now I don't know if Dunleavy told the guys that, boy, it doesn't look like there's going
08:20to be a move out there for us.
08:22Or if he said, we got nothing brewing right now, but I'll keep looking and we'll see.
08:28But it is interesting, and I mentioned this to Evan earlier today, I said it does feel
08:35like this is a coordinated, unified message among Kerr, Curry, and Draymond Green.
08:44And maybe what's going on right here is, this is Steph Curry's way of saying, it isn't about
08:51a title for me.
08:52It's about, can we get into the postseason and into the playoffs and just get a crack
08:59at it?
09:00I mean, I think the team is well beyond thinking that they can win a title this year.
09:07And the question then becomes, is it going to be worth it to try to get up to 5 or 6
09:14if in two or three years down the line, we're going to have nothing in the cupboard?
09:19What do you have now outside of Jonathan Kaminga, who they dearly miss, and Podds,
09:24but outside of Kaminga, right?
09:26Stani, when you talk about assets, outside of the picks, what player do you have?
09:31Jonathan Kaminga, who's probably making money.
09:34We'll see.
09:35All right, 888-957-9570 is the number.
09:42It's hard to think that this isn't the low point right now this season.
09:47They're one game under.
09:48It's the first time they've been under .500 all season.
09:51They're 7-17.
09:53They lost a nine-point lead with nine and a half minutes remaining.
09:58They just didn't play well enough down the stretch to win the game.
