Transcript
00:00Speaking personally, I know the difference a mentor makes to me, my big brothers, great teachers and good youth workers.
00:06And I genuinely think, had I not had great mentors, I may have turned out differently.
00:11And so I'm quite keen to make sure those young learners who may not have a mentor, so you're in danger of being excluded,
00:16you may have been excluded, you may be in the care system, you may have special needs,
00:21that you have access to a mentor who could transfer in your lives.
00:24And we know, not just has our £34 million led to 100,000 young people having a mentor,
00:29we've assessed what difference it's made.
00:31So we've seen young people improve relationships, improve mental health, improve educational outcomes,
00:37improve employment outcomes.
00:40We saw last year the lowest number of teenage homicides for more than a decade, still to high, we've got to make more progress.
00:47We saw last year the lowest number of young people being killed, still to high, we've got to make more progress.
00:52So we're starting to see the difference it's making, we're going to carry on.
00:59.
