00:00The flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the Jeju Airjet that crashed on Dec.
00:0629 stopped recording approximately four minutes before the aircraft struck a concrete barrier
00:12at South Korea's Muan Airport.
00:15South Korea's Ministry of Transport stated on Saturday that investigators examining the
00:20nation's deadliest aviation disaster, which claimed 179 lives, are analyzing why the black
00:27boxes ceased recording.
00:30Two injured crew members seated in the tail section were rescued from the wreckage.
00:34The flight data recorder, deemed irretrievable for data extraction in South Korea, was sent
00:40to the United States for further analysis at the National Transportation Safety Board
00:44– NTSB – laboratory.
00:47However, authorities suspect the recorders suffered data loss, complicating efforts to
00:52uncover the jet's final moments.
00:54Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan in southwestern South Korea,
01:02belly-landed and overshot the runway before crashing into a concrete structure and erupting
01:08in flames.
01:09The incident has sparked a national outpouring of grief, with memorials established across
01:14the country.
01:16Investigators have identified potential contributing factors, including a bird strike, faulty landing
01:21gear, and the airport's runway barrier.
01:24The pilot reportedly aborted an initial landing attempt due to a bird strike and crashed on
01:29the second approach when the landing gear failed to deploy.
01:32Lead investigator Lee Seung-yeol disclosed this week that feathers were discovered in
01:37one of the plane's engines.
01:39However, he cautioned that a bird strike alone may not immediately result in engine failure.
01:45Authorities have raided Muan airport offices and Jeju Air's Seoul headquarters as part
01:49of the probe.
01:51Additionally, Jeju Air's CEO has been barred from leaving the country.
01:56Rival political parties have formed a joint task force to investigate the incident, and
02:01Transport Minister Park Sang-woo offered his resignation earlier this week.
