00:00Investigation on the deadly Jeju Air crash now focuses on design features at the Muan
00:06International Airport, where the incident took place last Saturday, December 28.
00:11Fire and transport officials questioned the large dirt and concrete embankment near the
00:16end of the runway used to support navigation equipment.
00:19The plane slammed into the embankment at high speed and erupted into a fireball.
00:24Bodies and body parts were thrown into surrounding fields, and most of the aircraft disintegrated
00:29in flames.
00:31Captain Ross Rusty Amer, chief executive of Aero Consulting Experts, says,
00:36"...unfortunately, that thing was the reason that everybody got killed, because they literally
00:40hit a concrete structure.
00:42It shouldn't have been there."
00:45Transport ministry officials say most South Korean airports were built based on international
00:49civil aviation organization rules that recommend a 240-meter runway and safety area.
00:55But a domestic law allows adjusting the location of some installations in a range that does
01:00not significantly affect the performance of the facility.
01:03The investigation has uncovered that remarks on the airport's operations manual says the
01:08navigation equipment, called localizers, was installed too near the end of the runway.
