Japan has pledged to support Malaysia in improving its flood management capabilities by leveraging its expertise and experience in disaster prevention.

This commitment was announced by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on Friday (Jan 10).

00:00Malaysia is prone to flooding and damages through flooding, so we agreed to cooperate
00:28drawing upon Japan's knowledge and experience in the field of disaster prevention or DRR.
00:46We agreed that between Japan and Malaysia we'd like to cooperate in many areas in the
00:54international community and we have seen a convergence of views.
01:14And as eminent issues, East China and South China Seas, the Middle East and the Myanmar
01:23situation was taken up in our discussions.
01:26We had a frank exchange of views and we agreed that we want to closely communicate.
01:44In particular, Malaysia is a major country with a large number of Muslims and the country
02:08is a bridge spanning between Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
02:14And so regarding the Middle East situation, including the situation in Gaza, including
02:21leveraging knowledge of East Asia toward economic independence of the region, we agreed that
02:33we would cooperate for regional peace and stability.
03:03I have never-ending esteem for Prime Minister Anwar and it was a great honor for me to be
03:29able to meet with him for the second time.
03:33And I would like to express my appreciation for the hospitality and the welcome that I
03:39received on this visit and I hope that we will be able to extend hospitality to many
03:46visitors from Malaysia to our Osaka Kansai Expo.
03:52And I hope that I would be able to reciprocate and welcome Prime Minister Anwar next time
04:00so that we could have an exchange of views and build a relationship of trust even further.
