00:00This January, we celebrate Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis Awareness Month.
00:06Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis are serious conditions that can have a negative effect on our health.
00:14That's why it's important for us to have the right food to avoid and prevent them.
00:20This is Prof. Fee. Today, to give us an update on this topic, we will be talking to Gastroenterologist, Dr. Angelo Lozada.
00:31Good morning, Doc, and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines. Doc Angelo.
00:37Hi, good morning, and good morning to all the viewers of Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:44Thank you so much, Doc, for being with us this morning. This is Prof. Fee together with Patrick.
00:48This is Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis Month. What are the main goals of this month and what is the theme of this year?
00:59Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis Awareness Month is enacted into law by the Republic Act 1052.
01:09The purpose of this is to promote awareness with regards to liver cancer as well as viral hepatitis.
01:22Many Filipinos have viral hepatitis B.
01:30In the Philippines, there is a high number of people infected with hepatitis B.
01:44The goal of this celebration is to have awareness as well as to reduce the number of people infected with hepatitis B and eventually reduce the incidence of liver cancer.
02:07Doc Angelo, what is the connection of viral hepatitis to the occurrence of liver cancer?
02:13And why is it important to have an early examination for these patients?
02:19Yes, that's right, Prof.
02:21Because of viral hepatitis, if a person has a chronic infection of chronic hepatitis B,
02:30it is possible to have liver cancer.
02:35Hepatitis B is already identified as a carcinogen.
02:40So if a person is chronically infected, it is at risk to have liver cirrhosis and also liver cancer.
02:51Alright Doc, I know that there are different types of viral hepatitis when it comes to liver cancer.
02:57So what are the differences?
03:04We have different types of viral hepatitis.
03:08Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D, and Hepatitis E.
03:20That's a lot.
03:21Yes, there are a lot of letters in the alphabet of viral hepatitis.
03:28Although, Hepatitis A is commonly found in food and contaminated handling of preparation of food.
03:41It is self-limiting.
03:43So if you have Hepatitis B, it will eventually disappear.
03:51Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are the infections that can be chronic.
04:01So if you are infected, it is possible that it will not disappear.
04:06That's one of the things that can happen.
04:13Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
04:19How about Hepatitis D and Hepatitis E? Is it still complicated?
04:23What are the most common symptoms of Hepatitis D and Hepatitis E?
04:30Hepatitis D and Hepatitis E are not that common, especially in the Philippines.
04:39So we are not that concerned about Hepatitis D and Hepatitis E.
04:45Usually, we are concerned about Hepatitis B.
04:51Usually, it is estimated that 1 out of 7 Filipinos will have Hepatitis B.
04:57For Hepatitis C, the transmission is the same, like blood and sexual contact.
05:07It can be transmitted from one person to the other.
05:12That's why it's called HIV test.
05:18What are the main symptoms that a person with liver cancer or hepatitis should monitor?
05:29There are signs of liver cancer.
05:35Usually, the non-specific signs are weight loss, fatigue, pain.
05:43Sometimes, there is non-specific pain in the right upper part of the stomach.
05:51Usually, there are signs of liver failure.
05:59It can be due to liver cancer or viral hepatitis.
06:06Is there a way to prevent viral hepatitis?
06:13Is there a way to prevent viral hepatitis?
06:18Yes, to prevent viral hepatitis, we can get vaccinated.
06:29There is a vaccine against Hepatitis B, especially for those who have not yet been infected and have no immunity.
06:38It is important to get vaccinated against Hepatitis B virus for protection.
06:45It is also important for pregnant women to get vaccinated against Hepatitis B in the first 24 hours of their lives.
07:01My doctor is always asking me to get vaccinated.
07:06I'm just kidding, Doc.
07:07Thank you so much for sharing your information about liver cancer and viral hepatitis, Dr. Angelo Lozada.
07:16Thank you, Doc.
