Thai police say they believe the shooting killing of a Cambodian opposition MP in Bangkok was an organized assassination. The suspected slayer, a Thai national, has been detained after crossing into Cambodia. It comes as Human Rights Watch urges the Thai government to independently investigate the murder.

00:05Thailand has been arrested after a day-long search. Lim Kim-Ya, a former
00:10member of the outlawed Cambodian National Rescue Party, was killed by a
00:14gunman in Bangkok on Tuesday after crossing into Thailand with family
00:18earlier that day. Police in Cambodia arrested a suspect after Thai
00:22authorities found he had crossed the border. Human rights activists are
00:26calling on Thai authorities to investigate the murder. What has
00:30happened in the last 24 hours really sends a chill down the spine for any
00:34Cambodian political activists that Bangkok is not a safe place and so I
00:39think the Thai government really needs to ensure that there is a thorough
00:41independent investigation to really get to the bottom of who ordered this
00:46killing and to prosecute the perpetrators responsible. The shooting
00:52suspect has been identified by Thai authorities as a former Thai Marine who
00:56had been working as a taxi driver.
