00:00I think what we've seen from the Conservatives today is shameless
00:03opportunism in pursuit of a cheap headline. The outcome of what they have
00:08done, if it were to pass in the House of Commons, will be to kill stone dead this
00:12landmark legislation that would keep children safe and would take action to
00:17make sure that we are protecting children. This has been a source of
00:19discussion in recent days. The test for the Conservatives is whether they are
00:23prepared to act to keep children safe or whether they are intent on stopping this
00:28legislation progressing. They say they want action. Here's how we'll deliver it
00:31through this legislation. We had a national inquiry that the Conservatives
00:35launched that we supported when we were in opposition. It reported in 2022 and in
00:40the time since, when the Conservatives were in government, what did they do with
00:43those recommendations coming out of the national inquiry? Absolutely nothing. Now
00:47is the time for action to protect children, to keep children safe and to
00:51make sure that we're doing everything within our power as a government and
00:54that's why today's legislation is so important. I don't want to hear any more
00:57from the Conservatives about the things that we should be doing when they failed
01:02to act over many, many years, including some of those who are ministers in the
01:06department, in departments like the Home Office.
