00:00I thought that the, uh, Steelers looked awful and they have looked awful now for a month
00:05straight and I mean they are finished and I can't even describe it, they are done.
00:12Here's where I'll disagree with you.
00:14I don't believe that Saturday night's performance was at all connected or similar to the games
00:22against the Eagles and the Ravens.
00:24They were in the Eagles game until Najee Harris fumbled.
00:28If Najee Harris doesn't fumble, the score goes likely to minimum 21-17 and possibly
00:3421-21 in, I don't remember the exact point, but at some point in the third quarter.
00:41In the Ravens game, they were actually on the way to taking a 14-7 lead if only Russell
00:47Wilson doesn't decide to try to be a hero and tries to take on a defensive back and
00:54winds up fumbling the football at the, basically at the goal line.
00:58So instead of a 14-7 lead, they wind up in a hole.
01:02So those were performances that were against exceptional competition and they failed because
01:10they are the team that has to rely on you turning the football over and them not.
01:16And in those two occasions, they turned it over in significant, there was a pick six
01:21as well in that Baltimore game.
01:23So that's the fundamental truth about those two games.
01:27Kansas City was a mess.
01:28Kansas City is way better than the Steelers are on any day, let alone Christmas day with
01:32what, an hour and a half's worth of rest.
01:35But then the Cincinnati game was an entity unto itself.
01:38It was a complete debacle from the offensive side of the football.
01:43The coaching staff seemed to have no interest at all in opening the playbook beyond page
01:48one.
01:50It felt to me as I got through this, I'm watching it and I'm trying to figure out what
01:54are they doing?
01:55What are they trying to do?
01:56And Scott, there came a point in the game where it felt like it was an exhibition game
02:01and they don't want to show anything to week one opponent or week two opponent.
02:05That's what it felt like.
02:06They had 11 first down plays to take that were not part of the end of the first half
02:13two minute warning or the attempt to come back from more than two scores down in the
02:17fourth quarter, 11.
02:19And on those plays, they ran the ball 11 times.
02:24You can't win like that in the NFL unless you're gaining 15, 20 yards on every one of
02:29those.
02:30And, and out of those 11 plays, Scott, eight of them went for fewer than five yards and
02:35seven went for fewer than four.
02:37So they weren't going anywhere.
02:39It wasn't like this is working.
02:40Let's keep doing it.
02:41It was, this is failing every time and let's keep doing it because we're going to control
02:46the football.
02:47So you don't control the football if you don't move it, they make you give it up eventually.
02:52They suck.
02:53Okay.
02:54But they, they is a strong, no, they is much too encompassing because they went against
03:01the best offensive unit in football with Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase.
03:06And they didn't allow, they allowed one touchdown on the opening drive and then they controlled
03:11the game at that end where they, where they failed miserably is on the offensive end.
03:17Now, if George Pickens is dropping everything that's thrown to him, which he literally did
03:21say for one of sideline pass on the opening drive, if he's doing that I can't say they're
03:28going to move the football successfully against anybody.
03:32But when they play the game the way they can and have, they're, they're a challenge for
03:38anybody to beat.
03:40And they decided against the Bengals and maybe it was the weather.
03:45But the weather, if it's not working, Scott, you can't keep doing the same thing.
03:50That's just, there's just no way that's defensible.
03:53And Tomlin tried to defend it by saying that, well, we want, it's a, it's a lower risk proposition.
04:00But again, if you are getting less than three yards, three yards or less on every first
04:05down play, you are not moving the football.
04:08And if you're not moving the football, you're not possessing the football.
04:12And so in that, in that part of the game against the Bengals, they failed miserably.
04:17They were badly outpossessed by the Bengals who, who chose, look, we're not running against
04:23these guys.
04:24We can move the football in the air.
04:26And they did.
04:27They just couldn't complete drives against the Steelers defense.
