With more than half a foot of snow in Washington, D.C., crowds descended on a park to join in a massive snowball fight that rarely gets to happen.
Transcript
00:00It's been a busy day for snow crews at our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.,
00:04getting anywhere from six to ten inches of snow overnight and into this morning.
00:09It was the perfect day for those hoping to take in the elements.
00:13Just here for the snowball fight. I got a, my boss let me leave work a little bit
00:16early to come and do this for lunch break, so that's what I got to do.
00:19It's amazing. It is so much fun. I've never got to be close up in D.C. to experience
00:25this all life. And now we're being targeted.
00:29Dylan Hill and Anna Carney are just two of hundreds, if not thousands, of people taking
00:34part in the annual D.C. snowball fight. This year, it's at Meridian Hill Park.
00:38The last time it was held at this location was back in 2016, when D.C. got 17 inches
00:44of snow. Ben Cremell was there nine years ago and was not going to miss it in 2025.
00:51Lots of people who don't know each other all interacting together and having a great time
00:55in the snow and playing together. That's great and pretty unique.
00:58It was that very concept 15 years ago that made Michael Lippin wonder why there wasn't
01:03a group willing to step up to hold the annual event. That's when the D.C. Snowball Fight
01:07Association was formed. Since then, each year has brought its own set of unique challenges.
01:14Five winters in which we had little or no snow at all and we couldn't do anything. So
01:20yeah, we had some very eventless winters. Bad for business, bad for the snowball business.
01:27But I will tell you that only in a place like this where it doesn't snow that much,
01:33can you actually gin up the enthusiasm for a snow day. Even like with a three
01:39or four inch snow day, people get so excited just for that.
01:43And D.C. certainly pulled away with more than just three to four inches. Parts of the metro
01:48area saw up to 10 inches, leaving snow crews busy for a good portion of the day, clearing roads and
01:55sidewalks around the White House and beyond. Officials say that'll continue through Tuesday.
