00:04immigrant visas, or SIVs, to resettle in the United States arrived in the Philippines on
00:09Monday, January 6.
00:11This follows years of negotiations with the families having faced significant risks living
00:15in Afghanistan.
00:16A maximum of 300 Afghan nationals will stay in a secure, undisclosed location in the Philippines
00:21as part of the SIV program.
00:23Their stay, including housing and security, is fully funded by the U.S. government.
00:27They are restricted to the facility except for two trips, one for visa interviews at
00:31the U.S. Embassy in Manila, and another for their flight to the United States.
00:35The program will last 100 days, with all applicants expected to depart the Philippines by March
00:402025.
00:41Each Afghan can stay for a maximum of 59 days, and if their SIVs are not processed within
00:4650 days, they must leave the Philippines.
