00:00Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru is set to visit the Philippines from April 29 to 30.
00:06This will be Ishiba's first trip to Manila as Prime Minister since he took office in October 2024.
00:11Malacanang says President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Lisa Marcos will be hosting Ishiba
00:17and his spouse Ishiba Yoshiko for engagements inside the palace on April 29. In 2024, the two
00:23countries signed a Reciprocal Access Agreement or RAA allowing soldiers from both countries to
00:27train in each other's soil. The Philippine Senate ratified the RAA and now waits for Japan's
00:33approval before it takes effect. Japan has played a large role in the Philippines's efforts to
00:38strengthen its maritime and archipelagic defense. It is also one of the Philippines's four strategic
00:43partners along with Vietnam, Australia, and South Korea.
