Showers in the north and west, falling as snow over hills and to lower levels across northern Scotland away from the coast. A band of showers spread south into Northern Ireland and later into Wales and southwest England, falling as snow in places. Drier across eastern areas but cold everywhere with a widespread frost and an ice risk where we have seen any showers. Yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place across northern and western areas - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 06/01/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello, as this wintry week continues, it's really important to stay up to date with the
00:05forecast and the warnings. Best way to stay up to date, of course, is to hit subscribe
00:09if you're watching this on YouTube. Plenty going on, even though the low pressure that
00:13brought all the heavy snow over the weekend is now starting to clear away. But as it clears
00:18away, the colder air is tucking back in behind it. So after a brief milder spell on Sunday
00:23across the south, the colder air has now returned and certainly cold enough for the showers
00:29that are coming in on that northerly wind to still have some snow mixed in over northern
00:33Scotland through the night. Snow and ice continues to be a threat. And then we're looking at
00:37this little weather feature coming into Northern Ireland, pepping up the sleet and snow here
00:42through the evening. So again, tricky conditions on the roads that then spreads into Wales
00:47and southwest England. Don't be surprised if you wake up to further snow across parts
00:52of Wales and southwest England in the morning. Could be several centimetres in places, but
00:56it will be hit and miss. It is going to be more of a mixture of rain, sleet and snow
01:00with sleet and rain, most likely close to coast. But any type of shower could turn things
01:06icy as temperatures once again fall widely below freezing well below through the glens
01:12of Scotland. We could get down to minus five, minus six, even lower across the southern
01:17uplands. But most towns and cities hovering closer to freezing, but still down to zero
01:22minus one or minus two. So a frosty start to the morning, potentially still very icy
01:28in the west and across northern Scotland, where more snow showers will come in through
01:31the day. The showers tending to ease a little bit elsewhere and certainly much of eastern
01:36and southern England's good chunk of central and southern Scotland. Dry, fine and sunny
01:40for most of Tuesday, but still feeling cold. The showers across northern Ireland, north
01:46Wales, northwest England, they will be a wintry mix. That means hail, sleet and some snow
01:52is possible and continuing to see those wintry showers coming in across northern Scotland.
01:56Still windy here as well. Not quite as strong the winds on Tuesday compared to Monday. So
02:02perhaps maybe not feeling quite as cold, but still temperatures are going to struggle below
02:06average many places, only three or four Celsius, maybe six or seven across parts of the south.
02:10The winds here that will be lighter than Monday's and that will be probably quite noticeable
02:15during the course of the evening. Still a few showers feeding into western areas and
02:19across northern Scotland. So again, as temperatures tumble and they will tumble pretty widely
02:25down well below freezing, it could well turn icy for Wednesday morning. Wednesday, though,
02:30dry and sunny for most areas. But down to the southwest, we are keeping our eyes on
02:34this weather system. This is going to bring some milder air, but a bit like that system
02:39did at the weekend, it's also going to bring some moisture on this warm front. Some uncertainty
02:44about the exact track, and that's giving us a few headaches because where this wet
02:49weather hits the colder air, it is likely to generate some snowfall. So this is something
02:54we're watching very closely for Wednesday. There is a Met Office yellow snow warning
02:59in place, but that doesn't mean that we're definitely going to see snow in this area.
03:04It is still something we're keeping an eye on because it all could be a little further
03:07north or it all could be a little further south. So it's not a guarantee of snow across
03:13this yellow area. It's just an area where we have the potential for some disruption
03:18as this wet weather comes in. If it is a little further north, hitting that colder air, it
03:22could generate some quite significant snow across southern counties of England on Wednesday.
03:27As I said, it could be a bit further north. It could be a bit further south, in which
03:31case we wouldn't see much snow, if any at all, across the south. There will still be
03:35some wintry showers across northern Scotland, but many other areas on Wednesday having a
03:39fine but cold winter's day with temperatures starting below freezing and ending up just
03:44a little bit above. Temperatures in the south depends on, I say, that weather front and
03:48just how far north it is. So do keep up to date with the weather forecast over the next
03:54few days. The wintry weather likely to continue for most of this week. If you're watching
03:58this on YouTube, then do hit subscribe.
