00:00Teammates, we were able to interview GILAS Pilipinas Head Coach Tim Cohn for his update on the lineup of GILAS Pilipinas in the upcoming window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
00:12Let's watch the report of Paulo Salamaty.
00:15It is now clear that the presence of the GILAS Pilipinas Men's Basketball Team in the official roster will not be seen.
00:24They will fight for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier next month.
00:307'3 center Kai Soto was injured in his leg.
00:34In the fight between Koshigaya and Mikawa yesterday in the 2024-2025 season of the Japan B League,
00:40Soto's post-up move to Zach Ogos in the first quarter of the match did not look good
00:47due to the out-balance of his left leg and their loss in the final score of 79-77.
00:55Despite the unclear update on Soto's injury,
01:00there are people who see GILAS Head Coach Tim Cohn who can be replaced by Young Big Man.
01:07Well that's why we have Japheth. Japheth is there to replace any of the bigs that we have.
01:12And if you can tell me there's another big out there that equates to Japheth's size and ability,
01:17then I'll be happy to look at him.
01:19Who's eligible and who has some experience.
01:24And we have Mason Amos to fortify us if we lose someone like Jamie or someone like Jamie Campbell or one of the other guards.
01:33Even though the outcome of Soto's injury was serious,
01:37D&E Cohn gave as much as possible.
01:40They were able to ensure that the line-up that gave them a 4-0 win-loss record in the previous window
01:47was intact due to the short preparation of the opponent.
01:52I know that there's a real clamor for a bigger pool.
01:56But it's just the way that the window, I've said this a million times,
02:03the way the windows are set up in terms of you have such a small time for preparation,
02:09it's really, you've got to use that preparation.
02:13I don't know how to keep saying it the right way, sorry.
02:16But we've got to use that preparation in a tight manner where there's not 18, 19, 20 players we're trying to teach.
02:22And trying to get into rhythm and trying to, you know, so it's really, we're really trying to keep it tight
02:28so we can take advantage of our preparation time that we have.
02:31Aside from this, D&E Cohn also shared how important it is for the next window to be set next month
02:38for the Philippines to face the FIBA Asia Cup.
02:43Well, you know, the whole idea is to continue to get to know each other.
02:48We have such small windows to be together that each window is absolutely crucial to our chemistry
02:56and our ability to compete at a high level together.
03:01So all these games are so important to us.
03:04The friendlies are going to be important for us.
03:06Learning how to go on the road and beat Taiwan,
03:10who is a completely different team this time than they were last time.
03:14Different coach, different import, they've got extra players.
03:16So we're expecting a big battle from Taiwan.
03:19And then to go to Auckland and play New Zealand at home, that's going to be a real chore.
03:25So all this right now is preparation for us to compete in the FIBA Asia.
03:32We want to be able to get there and compete.
03:35Going to be a lot of really great teams there.
03:37Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, you know, the Middle Eastern teams.
03:43It's going to be a lot of good.
03:45I know I'm missing somebody out there.
03:47But I know there's going to be a lot of good teams that we're going to have to compete against.
03:50So the idea is that we're going to use this window, hopefully, to prepare and get better for that FIBA Asia.
03:56The first men's national basketball team to play is the Chinese Taipei that has a home court advantage
04:02on February 20 before New Zealand moved to the 23rd of February.
04:07Paulo Salamatin for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
