00:00Today the government is announcing an independent inquiry to be led by Baroness Casey.
00:08Of course, Baroness Casey is, I would argue, the foremost public sector reformer of our time and
00:15she's been charged with looking at how we shape a social care service that isn't just fit for
00:21the present day, that isn't just future-proofed for the years ahead, but for the decades ahead.
00:27The transformation that we want to see to improve those outcomes and the standard of living,
00:34the quality of life for elderly people and for adults with disabilities.
00:41And this gives us an opportunity, I would argue, for root and branch reform to change the way we
00:47deliver social care aligned with the changes we want to see to our NHS as well, that shift from
00:54hospital to community, from analogue to digital and from sickness to prevention. They aren't just
01:02three big shifts that are relevant to the NHS, they're relevant to how we deliver social care as well.
