00:00We are still together on MEDIEN TV, thank you for staying faithful to us, here are the
00:20titles of your newspaper.
00:22Fleuron, Moroccan port facilities, Tangier Med is dominating in Africa and the Mediterranean,
00:29now occupying the third position in the ranking of the world index of performance of
00:35container ports, we are talking about it honestly.
00:39In the United States, the presumed author of the attack on the Bellier vehicle at the
00:45Nouvelle-Orléans and who killed at least 15 people, seems to have acted alone, estimates
00:50the FBI, we are talking about it honestly.
00:55The days go by and it looks like Gaza where the hecatomb continues, at least 28 people
01:01have been killed in an Israeli strike since the beginning of the war on the spot, more
01:06than 45,500 Palestinians have been killed.
01:13We start this newspaper in Morocco where the port of Tangier Med continues to sit down
01:19its domination in Africa but also in the Mediterranean, the port complex of the city
01:23of Detroit wins two places to occupy the third position in the last ranking of the
01:30world index of performance of container ports developed by the World Bank, S&P Global
01:38Market Intelligence, according to this index Tangier Med is by far the best port of this
01:45category in all of Africa and the Mediterranean.
01:48The details are with Alaa Benen.
01:51A new record for the port of Tangier Med, the main port of the kingdom has recently been
01:56ranked among the three best container ports in the world, according to the world index
02:01of performance of container ports published by CNUSAID.
02:05This port made an impressive jump, reaching the third rank with a score of 159.6 points.
02:11It far surpasses its African and Mediterranean competitors, such as the port of Algeciras
02:16in Spain, which is 12th with 142.3 points, and Port Said in Egypt, ranked 16th with
02:23131.17 points.
02:25The ranking is dominated by the port of Yangshan in China and that of Salalah Oman.
02:31Other notable ports include Tanjung Pelab in Malaysia and Xi'an respectively 4th and 5th.
02:38The world index of performance of container ports evaluates the efficiency of the ports
02:43based on criteria such as the duration of the stay of the ships.
02:47This ranking is essential for global economic actors including governments and
02:52companies in the maritime sector because it highlights opportunities for improvement
02:56to optimize international trade and supply chains.
03:00In short, Tanjemed's recognition of this prestigious ranking underlines its strategic
03:05role in maritime transport and its growing importance on the international stage.
03:13With us to come back to these performances of the port of Tanjemed, Abelatif Komat,
03:18Dean of the Faculty of Social, Legal and Economic Sciences at the University of Casablanca.
03:24Dean, good evening and thank you for accepting our invitation.
03:29Thank you, thank you for the invitation.
03:32We have just seen it, the port of Tanjemed wins two places.
03:36For those here in the third rank of the world index of performance of container ports,
03:43what is the importance of such a ranking and on which elements is it based?
03:50In fact, this ranking is very, very important.
03:53You know today the importance of international trade in terms of competitiveness and performance
03:59of the economies, especially with the disturbances that the world has experienced
04:04in recent times at the level of maritime routes.
04:07And so the dimension, I would say, of speed and efficiency becomes very, very important.
04:12So, in fact, it is a question of measuring the performance related to the duration of
04:17the treatment of ships, including, of course, the unloading and loading.
04:22And this is very important because the duration of a ship's stay at the port has a cost.
04:29It has, of course, I would say, an impact on economic performance,
04:34commercial performance, and the shorter the duration, the more, of course,
04:39this denotes the efficiency, modernity and logistical, technical and digital means
04:45that are made available to these ships.
04:47But also, of course, it has an impact on the course of international trade.
04:51And that's why all this is followed in a way, I would say, very fine by international institutions.
04:57It should be remembered that the World Bank and ESP, Intelligence Market,
05:01are behind this result, this tool that has been put in place for four years.
05:06It is in its fourth edition and each time the container port climbs to its rank.
05:12Today, it is third. It is largely first in Africa and in the Mediterranean.
05:16And it competes with major ports, notably Asia and China.
05:20And, of course, all this denotes, first of all, of course, the strategic position of this port,
05:26but also, I would say, the efficiency of its management and the means that are made available
05:32so that it is this very remarkable result that honors our economy and our infrastructures.
05:38Now, what can we learn from the performance or de-performance of the Tongemède port
05:45apart from the platforms dedicated to containers?
05:50So, first of all, in terms of containers, it should be remembered that, in fact,
05:54it is a very notable evolution that has made that, practically today,
05:58the port handles more than 8 million containers and the port is exceeding
06:05the objectives that were set for four years.
06:08And so, it is a very, very important performance because, indeed, containers remain,
06:14I would say, the most widely used tool in terms of international trade.
06:18Of course, a port is used for something else beyond the container.
06:22Of course, there is everything that is transport, notably trucks.
06:25You know that there is what is called TIR, international road transport.
06:29There, also, in fact, Tongemède, in 2023, exceeded more than 4% of what it achieved in 2022
06:38and practically more than 477,000 trucks passed through this port.
06:43Also, in terms of export of industrial products, the increase was more than 14% compared to 2022.
06:52And, of course, I would say the other products, everything that is vehicles.
06:57You know that Tangier, the city of Tangier, but also the other cities of Morocco,
07:01today we have a production capacity of more than 700,000 vehicles,
07:06most of which are exported.
07:08They are exported, essentially, from Tongemède.
07:11And there, of course, in fact, this performance evolves with the evolution of Moroccan vehicle production.
07:20You know that we are at 700,000.
07:21The goal is to reach one million vehicles.
07:24And always, this performance port is accompanied by this dynamic.
07:30And, of course, there is also the transport of travelers.
07:33More and more, travelers use the port of Tongemède to transit,
07:37in particular, to Spain and other destinations.
07:39To say that, of course, the containers remain the reference,
07:42but the port advances on the other sides, which are part of the classic activities of the ports,
07:49in a general way.
07:51By relying on the digital, the omnipotence of the digital,
07:55but also by taking advantage of the crisis in the Red Sea,
07:58Tongemède, we said it, continues to sit in its global hub position.
08:04This is also, isn't it, good news for the Moroccan economy?
08:10Of course, Morocco has always been an open country on the international level.
08:14You know that, practically, if we do the sum of Moroccan exports and imports,
08:20we are at about 70-75% of our GDP.
08:24So, we are a very open economy.
08:26We are the economy, I would say, the country most linked to more than 55 countries by free trade agreements.
08:33And so, this is a way, this is a strategy that has been taken by Morocco for several years.
08:38We consider that openness is a performance gauge,
08:41because it allows us to get closer to performing countries
08:45and so that our production is precisely up to the performance of the most advanced countries.
08:52And so, it is a strategic choice.
08:54For this, of course, Morocco needs ports.
08:57It should be remembered that the port remains, I would say,
09:01the means and the most used passage in terms of international trade.
09:06Of course, there are other means, but still,
09:08maritime transport remains dominant in terms of international trade.
09:12Of course, today we are talking about Tangemet,
09:14but there is also the West Nador, which is practically at the final stage.
09:17There is the great royal project initiated by His Majesty, which is the port of Dakhla.
09:22So, these are ways that already allow Morocco to be very performant, very open,
09:28but they will be even more so in the future,
09:32with the operationalization of the two major ports, which are that of Nador and Dakhla.
09:37So, of course, all this means that Morocco today is ranked among the first countries
09:42in the region in terms of performance in infrastructure.
09:46You know that infrastructure is very, very important to develop investment,
09:50whether at the national level or to attract foreign direct investment.
09:55Today, we are at 23 billion dirhams of foreign investment that Morocco acquired in 2024.
10:01These are performances, but it is also a way to reduce regional and territorial imbalances.
10:08The fact that the East is a port, the fact that the Sahara region is a port,
10:12and then the North is a port,
10:14it means that Morocco, beyond an economic performance,
10:20is also a territorial and regional performance.
10:23And all this, of course, is in the honor of our country
10:27and it allows us to reinforce the economic and social dynamics that our country knows.
10:33And, of course, the result today is a very promising result,
10:37because being the third world port in efficiency
10:41is really a very, very good performance for our economy,
10:44for our infrastructure and for our country.
10:47Abdelhatif Komat, thank you for all these details.
10:51Thank you for answering our questions.
10:57The year 2024 will certainly remain engraved in the history of the Casablanca stock exchange
11:03as that of an exceptional performance
11:06and of an unprecedented dynamism of issuers in the various economic sectors.
11:11A beautiful breakthrough, concretized in particular by the 22.16% bond of Masiyi,
11:17the index of all shares listed,
11:20with a volume of exchanges exceeding 99 billion dirhams.
11:25These performances show the solidity and resilience of the Casablanca stock exchange
11:33as well as the confidence of Moroccan and foreign investors.
11:37It is also the result of the innovation and digitization at the heart of the Casablanca stock exchange.
11:46We remain in the kingdom, or if you are motorized, you have certainly noticed it.
11:49Since January 1, the prices of petrol and diesel at the pump have seen a slight increase,
11:56an increase that is not without consequence on the purchasing power of Moroccans.
12:03After a significant drop in the prices at the pump on the last day of 2024,
12:07the wind is in a turning point for motorists.
12:10From January 1, the price of diesel has seen an increase of about 20 cents
12:16and that of petrol of 17 cents per liter.
12:19Moroccans are then faced with great economic challenges,
12:23especially since it is the second largest in the space of months.
12:28Gas had in the meantime increased by 20 cents and petrol by 10 cents.
12:36This increase has a direct impact on the purchasing power of Moroccans.
12:40It also concerns the prices of goods transported.
12:43The trend on the international market, especially refined goods,
12:47would have been at the origin of this new increase in the prices at the pump in Morocco.
12:53The recent increase in the prices at the pump arouses the concern of professionals in the sector and consumers.
12:58It weighs more on the budget of households and professionals in transport and logistics,
13:04already impacted by the recent economic crisis.
13:08We notice that the last increase in the prices of fuel has had an impact on the activity of service stations.
13:14Customers who came to us before to make the plan do not now exceed 200 dirhams.
13:25This increase is unjustifiable,
13:27especially since the price of fuel recorded a drop in international markets.
13:32This increase is not without consequence on the purchasing power of the citizen.
13:37The sector of hydrocarbons is facing the proliferation of the sale of fuel on the informal circuit.
13:46To put an end to this, it is planned to introduce a new regulation in the Finance Law 2025
13:52which aims to establish a chemical traceability of fuels.
13:56This device is particularly addressed to products from B2B sales.
14:01Senegal and Mauritania are taking more steps towards the exploitation of their common gas deposits.
14:07They started the year 2025 with very good news by announcing the opening of the first
14:13and then of the Grand Tortue Ahmeim GTA project,
14:17a gas deposit located at the maritime border of the two countries.
14:21A step in the development of this energy resource of capital importance for the region.
14:29Ahmed Bedi, Elina Drini.
14:322025 is a good year in perspective between Mauritania and Senegal.
14:37The two countries are taking a step towards the exploitation of their common gas
14:41with the opening of the first well of their GTA marine deposit,
14:45intended to play a key role in the regional energy industry.
14:50An important step before the commercialization of this hydrocarbon.
14:55The GTA block is a large-scale deposit with 425 billion cubic meters.
15:01It will have a production capacity of 2.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year in the first phase
15:07and 5 million tons in the second.
15:09This project offers a new crucial supply for European consumers
15:13and a strategic source of income for Mauritania and Senegal.
15:16While the first phase of the project gives priority to exports,
15:19the second phase includes a strong component of local gas for the two countries.
15:26The deposit, which represents one of the largest gas discoveries in deep water,
15:31will be exploited sustainably for the benefit of the populations and the economies of the two countries.
15:36In the long term, it should produce about 2.3 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year.
15:43The benefits of the production of gas from the GTA deposit,
15:47which is developed by the British BP with the American Cosmos Energy,
15:51the Mauritanian company of SMH hydrocarbons and the Senegalese Petrocen,
15:56will be able to cover in the future the budget spent on the realization of this project.
16:01In the future, the start of the production of GTA should not only strengthen the potential of West Africa,
16:09but also attract new players who want to take part in the opportunities for growth in the region.
16:16This evolution will be strengthened by the commitment of Senegal and Mauritania
16:22to create an environment favorable to foreign investments.
16:28The irregular migration routes continue to make victims, 27 dead, 83 migrants rescued.
16:35This is the report of the shipwreck of two fortune boats off the Tunisian coast,
16:42boats from sub-Saharan Africa.
16:45Among the survivors, five were transferred to the regional hospital of Kerkennah,
16:50east of Tunisia, to receive the first care,
16:54while the bodies found were returned to coast guards at the disposal of the legal medical service of the hospital.
17:02Donald Trump denounces, I quote,
17:05the violent vermin that has infiltrated the United States thanks, according to him,
17:09to Joe Biden's policy of open borders,
17:13a statement that comes after the murderous attack on the New Orleans car,
17:19whose presumed author, who made at least 15 deaths,
17:22was identified as a former American military native of Texas
17:26and who would have been inspired by the terrorist group Daesh.
17:34It was 3.15 in the morning.
17:36The population of New Orleans celebrated the new year, which was just beginning.
17:40The driver of a pickup drove into the crowd,
17:43rejoicing in the old square, the French neighborhood of this city of Louisiana.
17:48The presumed author of the facts had then fled after gunfire,
17:52in which two police officers were injured.
17:55So I'm going to give you as much of the information I possibly can.
17:58It was a very intentional behavior.
18:01This man was trying to overthrow as many people as he could.
18:04It was not a situation of influence.
18:07Most of the injured are at the UMC hospital.
18:10What I can also tell you is that this criminal shot our officers.
18:14From his vehicle, when he hit another vehicle,
18:17two of our officers were shot.
18:19Their condition is stable.
18:21This man was trying to run over.
18:24The presumed author of the attack on the car is dead,
18:27according to two American televisions, citing police sources.
18:31President Joe Biden, who will leave office on January 20,
18:34called the mayor of New Orleans, Latoya Cantrell,
18:37to offer all the support of the federal government.
18:41I was in contact with the White House and with the governor.
18:45What I ask at this moment are prayers for those who have lost their lives
18:49because of this tragedy.
18:51Our prayers for those who have lost their lives.
18:55In addition, I ask the public to stay away from eight blocks of houses
18:59around Bourbon Street.
19:01Stay apart.
19:03To stay clear.
19:05New Orleans is one of the most visited destinations in the United States.
19:09The Horror District is renowned for its restaurants,
19:12its bars and its jazz clubs.
19:14The attack took place shortly before the city hosted
19:17a major American football game, the Sugar Bowl,
19:20according to the municipality.
19:22The number of police officers had increased during the New Year
19:26in anticipation of a strong influx into the streets.
19:31And in this context, the FBI has stated today
19:34that there was no irrefutable link
19:36between the attack on the New Orleans vehicle
19:39and the explosion the same day in a Tesla Cybertruck in Las Vegas
19:44in front of the Trump Hotel.
19:46An explosion that cost a person's life.
19:51As soon as he arrived in Riyadh,
19:53the new Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad al-Shibani,
19:57announced that he hoped to open a new and bright page
20:00with Saudi Arabia.
20:02Last week, in an interview given to the Saudi TV channel Al Arabiya,
20:07the new strongman of Syria stated that Saudi Arabia
20:11certainly plays an important role in the future of Syria,
20:15evoking a great opportunity for investment
20:18for all the neighboring countries.
20:24And in this context, an operation to rake out
20:27began this Thursday in Homs, a city in the center of Syria.
20:31Syrian security forces are looking for pro-Assad militias
20:35who have not returned their weapons and ammunition
20:38to the new government.
20:41This large-scale raking operation in the neighborhoods of Homs
20:46aims to search for former members of the Shabiha,
20:49pro-Assad militias.
20:51These supporters of the former regime
20:53would have refused to return their weapons and ammunition
20:56to the center of regularization of the new government.
20:59These people are considered war criminals
21:02and are suspected of being involved in crimes.
21:06We have received information from the inhabitants
21:09according to which there were members of the militias
21:12of the former regime here,
21:14who had refused to return their weapons and terrify the residents.
21:18We arrested them and transferred them to the concerned department.
21:25Since the establishment of the new transitional government,
21:28it has also been asked of the Syrians to return their weapons
21:31for registration.
21:33The soldiers are also concerned.
21:37I have two hunting rifles.
21:39It's been a long time since it was my hobby.
21:41Here are their ammunition.
21:43The security forces of the new government saw them.
21:46They saw their license.
21:48They gave it to me with all due respect.
21:50They are learning to know us.
21:52Everything is going well.
21:54The authorities have imposed a curfew in some neighborhoods.
21:57Infantry troops have been sent to search for those
22:00who refuse to regularize their situation
22:03and to return their weapons to Homs.
22:05The Ministry of the Interior has called on the inhabitants
22:08of the neighborhoods to stay at home
22:10and to cooperate fully with the forces of the order.
22:14At the moment, the following days,
22:16at least 28 people have been killed in Gaza.
22:1915 others were injured after Israeli strikes on al-Mawazi,
22:23an area sheltering displaced people
22:26to the west of the city of Khan Younes.
22:28Among the people killed are the chief of the police,
22:31Mahmoud Salah, and his assistant,
22:33the Israeli Minister of Defense.
22:35I remind you that he had threatened to intensify
22:38his strikes on Gaza if Hamas continued
22:40to fire rockets on Israel.
22:45Despite growing hopes of ceasing fire,
22:47Israel, as we have just seen,
22:49continues its murderous attacks in the Gaza Strip.
22:52Would Hamas accept negotiations on hostages
22:55even without ceasing fire permanently?
22:57Let's listen to the answer of Abdiat Shihab,
22:59professor of political science at the University of Al-Quds.
23:03Hamas has accepted, it has made concessions.
23:06It is Netanyahu who changes his mind every time
23:10and adds a condition to it.
23:13Even the head of the Israeli opposition
23:17accuses the Israeli government, Netanyahu,
23:20of not having an agreement.
23:23There have been several agreements.
23:26It is the US administration
23:29that always gives guarantees to Israel
23:32that it does not want this exchange to continue.
23:36We are not trying to accuse the victims
23:39who are being massacred every day,
23:41to accuse them of refusing to make the exchange.
23:47These daily massacres
23:49have no military or logical justification.
23:55Destruction of hostages
23:58makes no sense.
24:00These are war crimes,
24:02crimes against humanity.
24:04This lie that the Israeli occupation army continues
24:10has nothing to do with ceasing fire
24:14or having a peace agreement.
24:16There is no peace agreement.
24:18There is a people that has been massacred for 77 years.
24:22The International Committee of the Arab World
24:25looks at these war crimes
24:30without making any effort
24:33to sanction the crimes of the occupation.
24:38This is the most catastrophic aspect of this affair.
24:42In this context, the Palestinian Authority
24:44has decided to suspend the distribution of Al-Jazeera
24:47until, I quote,
24:49its legal status is rectified.
24:51The Qatari channel denounces this suspension
24:54which, according to it,
24:56occurs when the Palestinian Authority
24:58tries to dissuade Al-Jazeera
25:00from covering the aggravation of the events
25:02in the occupied Palestinian territories
25:04and after a campaign of intimidation
25:06led to the meeting of these journalists.
25:11This is the end of this news.
25:12Thank you for following it.
25:13We will be back in a few moments to ensure the news.
