00:00Thanks for joining me for your morning weather update from the Met Office. If
00:03you're watching on YouTube don't forget to hit subscribe. Plenty of cold air has
00:09spread its way southwards, a frosty start for many and some Met Office warnings in
00:13place for snow showers which continue to feed in over northeast Scotland. Showers
00:18more of a mixture of rain sleet and snow for western Scotland, Northern Ireland
00:21and northwest England but with temperatures around freezing here it
00:24could well be icy. Check out our app and website for full details of the weather
00:29warnings. Through the day we'll continue to see some of those showers feeding
00:33into Northern Ireland, western Scotland, northwest England. Chiefly of rain at low
00:37levels but some snow on the hills. Snow showers will continue to come in on a
00:41brisk wind over northeastern parts of Scotland. Snow showers and strong winds
00:45means blizzard conditions at times and that won't be very pleasant for
00:50traveling in throughout the day. A few showers coming in over North Wales but
00:54much of mid and south Wales, southern England, the Midlands, eastern England
00:58staying dry and bright with some sunshine through the day. Temperatures
01:01going to struggle though, we're starting well below freezing and struggling to
01:05get much above four or five degrees Celsius through the day. Feeling colder
01:09with the winds coming in along these North Sea coasts and temperatures barely
01:12getting above freezing across the Northern Isles. Now as we go through the
01:16evening time temperatures will quickly drop back down below freezing. Still a
01:20few showers coming in over northern England and western Scotland so again it
01:24could be icy as those temperatures tumble. Most of the showers still will
01:29be of rain or sleet at low levels but some snow is possible on some higher
01:34roads through the course of the evening. Temperatures again across the south
01:38dropping down below freezing, minus two minus three, maybe a little lower than
01:43that in some rural spots. The breeze just showing signs of picking up in the far
01:47southwest, perhaps not quite as cold here and that is a sign of things to come as
01:52we go through the weekend. During Saturday though again many places dry
01:56and bright, a few showers keeping going in western Scotland, again chiefly of
02:00rain at low levels, some snow over the hills but for a good chunk of the
02:04country most of Saturday will be dry. But cloud is going to increase from the
02:09southwest, the breeze will be picking up as well and we will see some wet weather
02:13coming in here. Initially of rain but could turn to snow later on. As the wet
02:18weather moves in temperatures will tick up so by the end of the day we could be
02:21up to seven or eight or nine in the far southwest but for most places again
02:26temperatures going to struggle to get much above three or four Celsius. Now we
02:29do need to watch this wet weather coming in for the weekend. It's an area of low
02:34pressure out in the Atlantic slowly chugging towards us over the next 24 to
02:4048 hours. It's coming in from the Atlantic so it's going to bring moisture
02:44but it's also going to bring milder air eventually across the south. This warm
02:49front will bring the warmer air but as the wetter air, wetter weather hits the
02:55cold air in place that could turn things pretty nasty for a time. Some heavy snow
03:00likely not lasting long across the south but could last for a while over the
03:05Midlands, Wales, Northern England, parts of Scotland. Some uncertainty about
03:08exactly how far north we get so how much snow we do see but we could certainly see
03:13quite widely several centimetres of snow over Northern England, parts of
03:17Scotland and ice is likely to be a risk over parts of the Midlands and Wales. We
03:22could see freezing rain for a time and that could cause some serious
03:28disruption. So we have warnings in place for the weekend, snow and ice across the
03:32south, snow warning in place across Scotland, strengthening winds here will
03:36also again create drifting of the snow and potential blizzards and strong winds
03:41also likely across the south and then as it all melts as we head into Monday that
03:46could cause some flooding. So plenty to keep an eye on with this weather system
03:51moving in as we go through the weekend. Keep up to date yourself as I said at
03:54the start. If you're watching on YouTube hit subscribe and you can see those
03:58weather warnings for yourself on our app and on our website.
