The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations will proceed as scheduled despite Jan 6 being declared a public holiday for civil servants in Johor.

State education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin clarified the decision on Thursday (Jan 2) , and explained that maintaining the schedule was crucial to ensure students' momentum for the important examinations remains uninterrupted.

Aznan, who is also the Tanjung Surat assemblyman, assured that teachers and civil servants involved in the SPM process would be allowed to take replacement leave once the examinations are concluded.

00:00In the future, we will have a few speeches, and then we will give it to Ibu Ayah Jum'at.
00:05Today is the first day of the SPM examination written on January 2, 2025 for SPM 2024.
00:15And today is the most important day for students.
00:19Today I came to the Central School of Religious Studies, Johor Bahru,
00:23to see our SPM candidates for the examination.
00:29This is not the first paper, it is the first Malay language paper.
00:34And the total number of students in the state of Johor who took the SPM examination
00:39is as many as 49,980 students from all over the state of Johor, including 306 schools.
00:46To them, we are happy to see and pray that they all succeed in the SPM examination this year.
00:54We also target that our previous record will be kept by the state of Johor for the SPM decision to come.
01:07So far, all of our students who have been nominated as SPM candidates,
01:12all went to the SPM.
01:13However, today is not the first day of the written examination,
01:17so we do not have the complete data yet.
01:20Because this is probably the first day of the number of students who attended the SPM examination.
01:30As of now, in Kota Tinggi, because I also visited two days ago,
01:35we have managed and the school for them to take the SPM examination is not involved in the flood.
01:40They can continue with the SPM examination.
01:44And we also give special options for these students to resume their studies at SK Gembol.
01:57For the 6th of this month, the state of Johor is indeed on vacation.
02:00According to the state government's decision, it is indeed on vacation.
02:03However, for SPM students, they continue with the SPM examination.
02:07We do not want to interfere with their momentum to answer in terms of school holidays.
02:12So, it is on vacation, but the SPM examination is still on.
02:14And teachers are also given the opportunity to take a break after the SPM examination.
02:32We have never run away from the Friday and Saturday holidays.
02:35We have also had Saturday and Sunday holidays.
02:38We have to believe that Friday is a must.
02:41Even if we are not working, we have to do our du'a.
02:46And we hope that the students, and there are also some schools,
02:50have been set up as Friday prayers.
02:55So, there is no hesitation for them not to go to Friday prayers.
02:59And I feel and expect that more people will attend
03:04because we provide a very long break for them to attend Friday school.
03:12For school, we finish at 12.30 and start the next session at 2.30, 2.45 in the afternoon.
03:21So, there is room for them to go to Friday prayers.
03:24And I hope there will be a lot of people attending Friday prayers for the first time this year.
