Inabot na ng bagong taon, pero wala pa ring maayos na tirahan ang ilang pamilya sa Batanes kasunod ng pananalasa ng mga nagdaang bagyo. Bagong pag-asa ang hatid ng GMA Kapuso Foundation sa ilalim ng "Silong Kapuso Project" dahil sa handog nating mga yero, semento at iba pang construction materials.

00:00The new year has arrived, but some families are still unable to find a place to stay in Batanes

00:09due to the recent typhoon.

00:13GMA Kapusu Foundation has brought a new hope.

00:17Under the Silong Kapusu Project, we have provided iron, cement, and other construction materials.

00:30The Batanes are rich in the rich sea and mineral resources.

00:36These include rocks, limestone, and sand,

00:40which were used by the Ivatans to build typhoon-resistant houses of rocks.

00:47In 2000, this was banned.

00:52The entire Batanes was declared a protected area to protect their culture and nature.

01:01This is a big challenge for the Ivatans to build and maintain houses of rocks.

01:08All of this is from Manila.

01:11It affects the consumers more.

01:14How can you repair it if there is no iron or wood?

01:18That's why some of the new houses were built with light materials.

01:24Like the house of Rowena from Sabtang Island.

01:28It was quickly destroyed by the super typhoon Julian.

01:34Because of that, they were forced to buy wood and iron.

01:40We couldn't afford to buy it.

01:42The price of iron is expensive.

01:47It's almost Php 1,000 for 9 feet of iron.

01:50This is a new year and a new hope for the Silong Kapusu Project

01:56of the GMA Kapusu Foundation for the Ivatans.

02:02From Manila, we boarded one of the largest ships of the Philippine Navy.

02:08We used iron, wood, plywood, cement, and other construction materials

02:14to reach the mainland Batanes.

02:17We boarded another ship to reach Sabtang Island.

02:2328 partially damaged houses were given construction and roofing materials.

02:31This is the ground zero.

02:34Many houses were affected.

02:36It's very challenging when it comes to the logistics of the materials.

02:39106 totally damaged houses in the entire Batanes

02:44were given 10 bags of cement with the help of EGO Cement.

02:50We would be thankful if we don't have that.

02:53We don't have money to buy iron.

02:56This is a new year and a new hope for our fellow countrymen.

03:04So that if another storm comes, they will have something to celebrate.
