00:00This year, the government is not only targeting the criminals when it comes to security issues,
00:06but also those who are challenging the defense of our territories.
00:11That is also in the middle of China's more aggressive action,
00:15where several of our friends were injured.
00:19We will hear about those again in PTV Highlights 2024 by Patrick De Souza.
00:30As President, I have sworn to this solemn commitment from the very first day that I took office.
00:44I do not intend to yield. Filipinos do not yield.
00:47President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has a clear commitment to protecting the territory and sovereignty of the Philippines
00:55as part of the West Philippine Sea.
01:01But this year, our troops are facing many challenges in carrying out their duties
01:08due to the repeated harassment of China last June in an incident in Yungin Shoal,
01:14which is considered the most dangerous.
01:16One of our soldiers reached the point where his finger was cut,
01:21followed by the Chinese Coast Guard's harassment of the rotationary supplier or remission of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the BRP Sierra Madre.
01:33The repeated bombing and bombing of water cannons of Chinese ships
01:40by Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources ships
01:45carried out by the Maritime Patrol in our Exclusive Economic Zone,
01:50which also reached the Himpapawid,
01:52which was done to bully China,
01:55which was personally experienced by some journalists.
01:59This Chinese helicopter has been following us for a while now
02:02here in our airplane of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
02:08As you can see, this Chinese helicopter is very close to the BFR airplane
02:15that the Maritime Patrol is carrying out here in Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinlo.
02:21Despite the various trials, which also seemed to test our patience,
02:26the President insisted that the country will not do anything
02:31to ease tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
02:34But he insisted that we will not give up on our territory.
02:39This was again given by President Marcos Jr.
02:42Even so, Chinese warships also joined in the harassment and blockade in the West Philippine Sea.
02:50We are going to continue to perform our mission.
02:53We will never be part of an escalation in the situation in the West Philippine Sea.
03:00If we look at the evolution of the situation in the West Philippine Sea,
03:04the Philippines has never been an agent of escalation of tensions.
03:13In the midst of this, the military continued to strengthen its capabilities
03:18with the help of various exercises.
03:22This year, the largest naval exercises were held in the United States.
03:29Other countries also participated in this,
03:32where there was a joint exercise in the West Philippine Sea.
03:37In the next naval exercise, it will be even more extensive,
03:42in accordance with the President's directive.
03:46The programs for the modernization of the AFP are also not neglected.
03:52And one of the things awaited is the purchase of multirole fighter jets,
03:57which the President has already approved.
03:59The government also intervened in the acquisition of China
04:03in the plan to buy new Philippine weapons,
04:06where one of the targets is the Mid-Range Capability
04:10or Typhoon Missile System from the United States,
04:13which is currently in the country and used in various exercises.
04:17The armed conflict was also not saved in terms of politics,
04:23but despite this, they insisted on remaining professional,
04:27as well as being true to the Constitution and Chain of Command.
04:31Our job is to protect the Republic of the Philippines,
04:38protect its people, defend our territory,
04:42and defend our sovereignty and our sovereign rights.
04:46This is also what the President reminded,
04:49along with his recognition of the sacrifice of each soldier
04:53to maintain peace in the country.
04:57Keep up the good work, and we in the civilian government are completely behind you.
05:04Don't be distracted by what's happening.
05:07Let's stay focused. We are all in this together.
05:10My job is not only to fight,
05:12my job is not only to fight against all kinds of things.
05:17No, my job is to make the Philippines better.
05:21Now, you also have a mission.
05:24I am Patrick Deesus, and these are the highlights of 2024 for the new Philippines.
