00:00The Kansas City Chiefs yesterday take down the Houston Texans in a covering effort.
00:08Yeah.
00:09I mean, hanging a banner, right?
00:1127-19, they cover the three and a half points spread.
00:14The total in that game, 42 and a half, 43 and a half.
00:17Lisa, I know you absolutely love the over in that one.
00:21It's interesting, but for Kansas City, it was still technically a one possession game,
00:25but this actually feels like maybe their best performance since week one against Baltimore.
00:34And look, it was at home where they haven't lost all season, and they're one step closer
00:39to making sure that as long as they win their home games, they're playing in another Super
00:42Bowl.
00:43They had a balanced effort offensively.
00:44Now, they fell behind 10-7 early.
00:46C.J.
00:47Stroud on that offense were able to put some pressure on Kansas City, but Pat Mahomes and
00:51the Chiefs answered them.
00:52You saw Marquise Brown get involved in terms of the offense.
00:55Pat Mahomes, his ankle looked fine.
00:57He rushes for the touchdown.
00:58You saw De'Andre Hopkins step up.
01:00They got a touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy as well.
01:04Now, he was hurt in the second half.
01:05We've got to see how he fares the rest of the way, but at the end of the day, it was
01:08a balanced effort.
01:09And again, when the game is on the line, especially in Arrowhead where Houston's within striking
01:14distance, Donnie, all that defense does is get three and outs.
01:19They force turnovers.
01:20They get off the field and they give Pat Mahomes the football with about five or six minutes
01:24left, and it's Seinfield delivered a point win yesterday.
01:27Yeah, you take a look at, you know, good football teams make their own breaks, pun intended
01:31on this one.
01:32This game was going to be a one-point game.
01:33Tank Dell having an unbelievable game, makes a great touchdown catch on a perfect throw
01:37from C.J.
01:38Stroud.
01:39A little bit of friendly fire.
01:40He leaves the game probably going to be out for who knows how long into the next season
01:43even at this point.
01:44But it's just one of those things where you watch every Kansas City game.
01:46I don't know.
01:47We like to get online and say, hey, the refs are always helping out Kansas City because
01:50apparently it's what happens when you're just watching the big games and you have a rooting
01:53interest, maybe going against them.
01:55But they've broken perfectly this season with whether it's dropped snaps, missed field goals,
01:59made field goals, key injury players, because also that game was 17-16, 15-minute delay
02:04on the field.
02:05Ice the kicker and really did.
02:07He misses the extra point and away they go.
02:09It's just the Chiefs now.
02:10But as Kevin points out, the key ingredient in this whole thing is Kansas City is going
02:14to be at home with what looks like to be a healthy Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
02:18Good luck beating them.
02:19They'll probably be in the Super Bowl again.
02:21They're going to be, let's see, did they flip the favorites once again to win the conference?
02:26Nope.
02:27I don't know, man.
02:28Like Buffalo's just another world.
02:29So here's, I don't want to, I'm not getting into the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game yet, but
02:33just the Baltimore win gets them another step closer to the three seed.
02:39If this bracket falls, KC, Buffalo, Baltimore, there's no way anyone other than Kansas City
02:44can be favored.
02:46It doesn't matter what you think of the Baltimore Ravens.
02:47They're going to knock each other out, right?
02:49Yeah.
02:51Kansas City has to play at most one of those teams.
02:54So that was, to me, the one thing that I was wondering, and I didn't think it was the case
02:59if the books were saying, you know what would be tough for KC is if they ended up playing
03:05a one-versus-six round two game against Baltimore, where they're only a two-point favorite, which
03:12is I think about what that line would be.
03:14Again, in the same way every game result is, you know, breaks for Kansas City, it looks
03:19like the bracket might break, right, for Kansas City in a similar way.
03:25I think the bigger takeaway then almost ends up on the Houston side, this is now two straight
03:32years, right?
03:34It's going to be a successful season because you're going to win your division, you're
03:36going to make the playoffs.
03:37But you look around at the end of the season, you go, where is everybody?
03:43How are we even here?
03:44Like I actually now feel, Donny, that the conversation around Houston won't be, man,
03:49we thought Stroud was going to have a better year.
03:51Maybe I'm off base.
03:52I feel like it's, okay, so by the time they got to the playoffs, the only wide receiver
03:57left was Nico Collins, who missed a month because he had a bad hamstring.
04:00I mean, it's incredible.
04:01Yeah, it is incredible, and it seems like year to year this always happens, but this
04:04is the NFL.
04:05If you've watched for the past 10 to 15 years, Houston makes the playoffs, they stack them
04:08in the very first game they have because the draw is going to be weak, and we know that
04:12maybe they'll survive a game but certainly get knocked out in game number two.
04:15But it is unfair because the top end spectrum that we were hoping to get for Houston this
04:19year, you saw glimpses of it but never got a lot of play.
04:22Stephon Diggs coming over, Nico Collins healthy, Tank Dell, a couple of the wide receivers,
04:26like, wow, let's just see if CJ Stroud can even take the next jump after what was almost
04:30an MVP performance by a rookie quarterback.
04:33We never got to see it.
04:34Credit them.
04:35They're nine and six.
04:36They won that division.
04:37They won't do any damage in the playoffs, but what can you ask them to do anymore?
04:39It's now going to be Joe Mixon, who's like, we know they can't, we're trying to run the
04:43football.
04:4414 carats, 57 yards.
04:45He's been pretty quiet.
04:46But at the same time, Joe, that wide receiver room that was going to be so electric and
04:49also a shoulder-tight end is now down to a fraction of what we anticipated.
04:52Certainly not the same explosive offense that we saw last year where CJ Stroud could light
04:57it up for 300 at any point in time, right?
05:00And that was with, to Donny's point, a limited wide receiver core outside of Nico Collins.
05:04Right now you add the new dimensions and they're struggling to find consistency.
05:09They've had injuries.
05:10I also think, Kev, it's a, I don't want to say sophomore regression, but they were a
05:14young team last year with a rookie head coach.
05:16They win the division, they win a playoff game, and then all of a sudden all that expectation
05:22from year number one falls on year number two.
05:25And because they're young, you see slight regression in terms of handling that type
05:30of pressure.
05:31We saw it with Jacksonville when they got the victory the year before, you know, two
05:35years ago in the wild card game against the Chargers, right?
05:38They start last year very fast, eight and three.
05:41And then all of a sudden that expectation to win the division and maintain that momentum
05:45from the start of the year to the end of the year, they fell off a cliff.
05:48So this is actually a positive that they're still solidified as the division leaders and
05:54they're going to make the playoffs.
05:55How do they handle that once the playoffs start?
05:57That remains to be seen.
