00:00going back and doing some comparisons of the brilliance of this most recent season, this
00:082024 for Scotty Sheffler and looking, where's the rank, where's the rank against, you know,
00:14tiger 2000. And then one that I think is highly underrated and you brought this up and I'm
00:17glad you did is 2004 VJ sing. It's my, this is just, I'm going out on a limb here. I'm
00:23not asking you to co-sign this take, but of all the foils that tiger woods had and various
00:28stages of stages of his career, you know, whether it was like, you know, David Duvall
00:32early on, or like Phil Mickelson or Sergio Garcia, maybe in the mix there, I always thought
00:37BJ was the, the best tiger woods foil. And really was the only guy who, you know, put
00:43together a season like he did in oh four at the height of, of when tiger was playing,
00:47you know, illegal. I think, I think that's why we remember it so much. Yeah. So here's
00:52the first nugget that I'm going to give you to set this conversation up. This is, this
00:56was wild to me when I looked this up. So we talked last week that Scotty's total on
01:00course earnings this year, total 55.2 million. And someone went back as a golf digest article,
01:09I think it was this last summer and it's rough equivalence here. This is not exact, but basically
01:15took the, the winner's payout or the, or the purse, you know, for various positions for
01:20all of tiger's 2000 finishes and connected them to the 2024 version of that event. So
01:25tiger earned 10.7 million in 2000. And if it would have connected to, to the way they
01:32would have paid out 10.7 million in 2000, that is absurd. So adjusted for inflation,
01:40that's a lot more, right? Oh, you don't say we're not, we're not an economics podcast,
01:45but I can tell you that much. He would have earned $92.3 million on the course.
01:52If those purses in 2000 were the same as they are in 24 connected events.
01:56He won 63% of the potential purse money. I mean, it's not like if you look at the big
02:04pie chart that the PGA tour had that year, all 100% of the pie takes 63% of the total that he
02:11potentially could earn. And that's what he did. It's, it's truly insane. It's also insane that
02:16like if, if 10.7 million or, you know, whatever, because I think that there were other events,
02:20he played the, uh, the Johnny Walker, uh, he played the EMC world cup. There's some like
02:25non-PGA tour events. So I think the on-course earnings were like a little bit less than 10.
02:29So we're friends, by the way, you guys are buddies,
02:34hanging in the booth, by the way, handshake, just, just so you know,
02:38how was it guys, guys got some mitts and he's got some really strong hands,
02:44like we'll put her there situation. It was a, you know, Hey, how you doing, buddy? Uh,
02:49said my name, which was huge. That was big. Didn't have to introduce myself like the third time.
02:53And he won the battle of keeping the group strength that extra half, half of a second.
03:00So already sitting down, it's like, dang, just big dog me, right. You know, he's the big dogger.
03:05Uh, and I just got big dogs right from the get go. That would have been the only thing better
03:10than him saying your name. Like, good to see you smile. He's even said, good to see a big dog.
03:14Like if he's big dog, man of tiger, big dog me. I, Oh, that, I don't know what I would have done.
03:21I would have just been mute for the 25 minutes that he was in the booth.
03:25We, I just, you just turned to the cameraman around you, camera, camera, women said,
03:29did someone get that? Dan, you got to say, that's it. So that's the highlight of my career. I got
03:35big dog by tiger. That's phenomenal. Uh, where are we going to draw the line of comparison here?
03:41Because you could go back, you know, all the way to Byron Nelson, Bobby Jones, and say, well,
03:48those, you know, when, when you look at it, I mean, Bobby Jones won all four majors, uh, Byron
03:54Nelson won a million times, but I feel like for us with Scotty Sheffler, it needs to be a modern
04:01game, maybe comparison.
