00:00A Lions defense that had already been so banged up this season in the long term, get names
00:10like Aiden Hutchinson out for the remainder of this year.
00:14A linebacker and leader in Alex Anzalone has only gotten longer now for Detroit in the
00:20last 48 hours and not just on the defensive side of the ball.
00:27Two huge ones yesterday, now out for the remainder of this season.
00:31One of the best defensive tackles in the sport, Aleem McNeil suffering a torn ACL against
00:37Buffalo on Sunday.
00:39David Montgomery on the other side of the ball, a torn MCL.
00:44He needs surgery.
00:46He is out for the remainder of this season and by all standards, Joe, that includes a
00:51playoff run, maybe even an appearance at a Super Bowl as well.
00:56Carlton Davis, a veteran presence in that secondary has a fractured jaw.
01:01He is out indefinitely.
01:03The Lions are calling it around six weeks, could return for a deeper portion of the postseason.
01:11Maybe an NFC championship game or a Super Bowl berth in Khalil Dorsey, another member
01:17of that defensive backfield out for the remainder of this year with a scary injury on Sunday
01:23against the Bills, a fractured leg.
01:26Joe, we'll give our reactions to this in just a little bit, but first let's hear from the
01:32guy calling the shots in the Motor City.
01:35That would be Dan Campbell listing off the injuries yesterday for the Lions and how Detroit
01:41will try to respond.
01:43We've lost players.
01:44We've lost really good players, but nobody cares.
01:47I mean, you know, nobody cares and nobody's going to give us a pass or put an asterisk
01:51next to your record.
01:54So what it means is some guys are going to have an unbelievable opportunity, you know,
01:58because of what has happened.
01:59That means now and you're a guy who's on the vet squad or you're a young player or you're
02:04somebody that's been dying to get an opportunity.
02:07You're about to get it.
02:09And so that's that's a pretty cool thing.
02:12That's a pretty inspiring thing.
02:13You know, what are you going to do with it?
02:15And it's up to us to give them a plan to where they can succeed.
02:19And I've said it before.
02:20We're going to play with three units here and we'll do what we have to do to win a game.
02:24And that's all that matters.
02:25That's all that matters from here on out, is that you just need to have one more point
02:29than the opponent.
02:30Period.
02:31Joe, you knew that Dan Campbell was going to have the correct mentality and say the
02:36right things about that gritty effort and the next man up idea that Detroit has shown
02:42and would continue to persevere through down to some stretch of this regular season into
02:47the playoffs.
02:48It's one thing to say those words.
02:50It's another thing to actually have the availability and the talent necessary in your reserves
02:56to compete at that highest level when your goal is not to win football games just to
03:02make the postseason, but win football games to be in a great spot to start the playoffs
03:07and actually play in a Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.
03:13Your heart goes out to those fans in the Motor City that have seen a generational run
03:18these last two years that now are going to have their season impacted at this point by
03:24the countless injuries the Lions are having to suffer through.
03:28Yeah, and but they at least in my mind, Ben, have a puncher's chance because of how they
03:35can win games as much as that defense is decimated.
03:41Dan Campbell's right.
03:42It's next man up kind of mentality.
03:44We've seen this for decades in the NFL.
03:48The next man up mentality works, especially when they're defensive players.
03:53The reality is, Ben, they can drop 40 on anybody and they you're never going to be able they're
03:58never going to be out of a game because of their ability to drop 30 and 40 points a game
04:02on any defense.
04:05Doesn't matter how bagged up that defense of theirs is.
04:08They're going to be able to outscore 95 percent of the teams that they play.
04:13They didn't weren't able to outscore Buffalo, but, you know, they're a long way away.
04:17How many other Buffalo Bill teams are there right now in the NFC you're worried about?
04:22They can weather this, unlike Kansas City, who thrives on playing low scoring close games.
04:29But without Patrick Mahomes, they're dead in the water.
