New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory are sweltering under heatwave conditions. Meanwhile in Sydney's west, temperatures have risen above 40 degrees celsius.

00:09I can see a lot of people behind the camera beginning to kind of park and come down to

00:15Up near Penrith, we're expected to hit about maybe about 42 degrees Celsius.
00:19But this heat wave is also kind of putting a lot of pressure down in Campbelltown, where
00:24it's about 40 degrees Celsius.
00:25Between 2019 and 2020, during quite a significant heat wave, hospital admissions, especially
00:31for things like heat stress, heat exhaustion, dehydration, had doubled during that period.
00:36And with the hottest December on record, they are warning that the presentation, so people
00:41kind of fainting or kind of falling ill, could put a lot of pressure on emergency waiting
00:48times in particular, particularly out in Sydney's west, where the ambient temperature tends
00:52to raise a lot more than, you know, the further away you are from the coast.
