00:00At Ashton Gate, could Bristol City finally begin to convert chances into goals and kill off games?
00:06The short answer to that was no.
00:08Once again, Bristol City fell into a familiar trap of being the better side and creating lots of opportunities,
00:13but failing to put the majority away and make the encounter an easy one.
00:17Off-target efforts from Naki Wells and Anis Mometi highlighted the problems for the Robins.
00:23They did take the lead in the 60th minute however, thanks to a superb free kick from Scott Twain,
00:28who found the top corner from distance, leaving the QPR keeper rooted to his spot and unable to prevent what was a perfect strike.
00:35From that point on, those inside Ashton Gate supporting the Robins would have hoped that the floodgates would have opened,
00:41but this was not to be, as just five minutes later, the visitors were level.
00:46It came from a Bristol City corner, being cleared towards Paul Smith,
00:50who charged towards the ball, looking to get in ahead of the oncoming Bristol City keeper.
00:55Smith did just this, with the keeper completely missing the ball.
00:59Although, Smith still had work to do, being far out and to the right and only just inside the Robins' half.
01:05However, he produced an inch-perfect effort that found the net from way out,
01:09to compound the misery amongst the home fans, who have become used to this outcome.
01:141-1 the game ended, and with it, another opportunity gone for Liam Manning and for Bristol City.
01:21Bristol Rovers knew that they were in for a tough test at St Andrews, against Birmingham City.
01:27And a tough test it proved to be, a 2-0 defeat for the Gas away from home, thanks to goals from Lee Buchanan and Jay Stansfield.
01:34The first was the pick of the two, as Buchanan caught a ball coming out from the box well,
01:39and it bounced into the bottom corner to put the home side ahead, after just six minutes on the clock.
01:45Then, with half-time approaching, the referee pointed to the spot, penalising Conor Taylor for handball in the Bristol Rovers' box,
01:53and giving the host a chance to go two goals ahead in the first half.
01:57Up stepped Jay Stansfield, and he made no mistake, converting with relative ease to cap off what had been a one-sided half.
02:04The second period saw the Gas limit Birmingham to no more goals, but ultimately,
02:10the away side never looked like getting back into this game, against a side who have spent heavily in League One,
02:15with the aim of quickly returning to the Championship following their unwanted relegation last season.
02:22The loss ultimately cost Matt Taylor his job at Bristol Rovers, with reports coming out on Sunday that he had been relieved of his duties,
02:30and then an official announcement followed early on Monday from the club,
02:34who are now said to be interested in former Swansea boss Gary Monk to be Taylor's replacement.
02:40Whoever the new manager is, they certainly have a task on their hands to put right the poor run of form that Bristol Rovers currently find themselves in,
02:48but will be encouraged by how tight League One is this season, and how Rovers have not been cut adrift from the pack,
02:54despite the lack of victories in recent weeks.
