The amount of money sent outside the EU by people who live within it keeps growing every year and is significantly higher than the money inflow.

00:11The amount of money individuals are sending outside the European Union is growing rapidly.
00:19Since 2018, it jumped by 20 billion euro, reaching a record figure of 50 billion euros
00:28in 2023.
00:31That is a significant difference with money transfers received by residents in the EU,
00:38which totalled only 14 billion euros last year, a number that has remained fairly stable
00:46since 2018.
00:49All countries with a positive balance, meaning that they received more money in transfers
00:55than they sent, were in Eastern Europe, with nearly half being EU candidate members.
01:04Serbia tops the list, followed by Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria,
01:13Kosovo and Albania.
01:15France has the most negative balance of payments, minus 15.7 billion euros, followed by Spain,
01:24minus 8 billion, and Germany, minus 7.4 billion.
