Just hours before her finals, Pepperdine student Olivia found herself facing the terrifying Franklin Fire as it targeted her campus. This video captures her experience during the ordeal.
Olivia was woken up at around 12:50 AM and instructed to head to the library along with other students. From there, they watched the apocalyptic scene unfold through the windows.
By morning, the courageous efforts of firefighters brought the situation under control, and the students were permitted to leave the library. On her way back to the dorm, Olivia recorded the damage left behind by the relentless blaze overnight.

00:00This is my last 24 hours as a Pepperdine student on campus during the Franklin Fire in Malibu.
00:06Good morning everyone, it is about 12.50 a.m.
00:10We have been woken up by helicopters, planes, firefighters at Pepperdine because there's a fire.
00:19I'm documenting this because this is crazy.
00:24Now we are officially being evacuated to the library.
00:28We have finals tomorrow.
00:31Today, it's today!
00:33This is horrifying.
00:37Once we got outside, we immediately had our first fire sighting and it smelled really strongly of smoke on our way to the cafeteria.
00:44So they gave us these masks, it's pretty smoky in here.
00:48Our finals tomorrow are canceled, thank goodness.
00:52Because me and Olivia didn't lock in like we should.
00:54Yeah.
00:55After about an hour of sitting in the caf, the sky outside, the window started turning bright orange and we could see the flames.
01:03I was pretty panicked when they got closer to the building so I turned on the news until I fell asleep.
01:07I woke up, I laid across these chairs and this mask has made like indentations on my face.
01:15It's totally smoky in here but it feels better.
01:19I'm assuming this building is functioning on a generator because we've had lights and power in here the whole time.
01:25Which has been a huge blessing because I can't imagine how much scarier this would have been if we were in the dark.
01:31They served us breakfast at around 5 and we saw the sun rise.
01:34It was really eerie and apocalyptic outside.
01:37Around 2 or 3 hours later, they finally let us go.
01:41These are the flames that they could see from the library.
01:45We were able to see some of the damage even though it was pretty smoky.
01:48We're still masked. It's horrible breathing conditions.
01:52But Ruby is here.
01:54Claudia's car survived.
01:56We saw a lot of smoking areas and residue from the fire and some of the burnt areas on our way back to our dorm.
02:03We thought this was the end of everything although have now been informed that it is still burning.
02:08As I record this, my roommates and I are off campus praying for the best.
02:12We are back in the dorm.
02:16I don't have any service. There's no power, but the water is working.
02:20Claudia's jumping in the shower. I'm out.
02:23Feeling really blessed to be alive and safe.
02:27We are so thankful for all of the firefighters and first responders and everyone at Pepperdine.
